Good selection of mostly Chinese food. Restaurant is always busy with a good atmosphere. Set menu is very generous!
Having been delayed at Gatwick overnight from a cancelled flight I took myself along to this in-house hotel restaurant and can only say although it was very busy the staff have no customer care skills, are rude to the point of you being just a number on the books and not just a person. On asking about glasses of wine... More
Great and authentic Oriental food. I love the Jungle Curry. Can get very busy and best to book Not the cheapest but fast service and good quality
We've been going to the 'Oriental' since it was run by Ken Hom. After the current guys took over the service does not inspire like it did before. The prices are too high for full enjoyment. The service was not spectacular either. Don't think we'll return. Hugo
I have been here many times, bit unfortunately can only comment on the tom yum soup and the jungle curry as, after trying both on my first visit, I have never been able to bring myself to order anything else. Be warned, both are HOT, when ordering the jungle curry the waitress will tell you that it is very hot,... More
We initially thought this would be a bog standard airport hotel restaurant, but boy were we wrong. Great food, amazing service and great value.
I arrived at 10.00pm, told by hotel check inthat the restaurants are open until 11.00pm. Went straight to the Gatwick Oriental, asked for a table at 10.15pm, was abruptly told “we close at 10.30 so be here soon” Arrived at 10.15pm, waiter got frustrated that I couldn't' find the wine page on the menu so he snatched the menu from... Thai and Chinese food was authentic and delicious. Nice wines to accompany. Lovely setting. Had the pancake duck and pad Thai. Couple of negatives is the rushed and abrupt service from the big haired waiter and the "optional" 12.5% service charge they automatically add to the bill. A personal pet peeve so I always decline to pay that and adjust... More
When flying out via Gatwick we stay at the Sofitel and usually eat at the Oriental because the fare is so different from what we can expect at our holiday destinations. We find the menu comprehensive and the food of good quality and tasty. The wine list is good. The service is efficient and as friendly as it can be... More
So much the airport hotel restaurant. They do try harder than some, service is brisk almost abrupt but rather impersonal. Food quality is good on the whole, phad thai noodles were exceptional. Desert menu uninspired. Wine list is decent but don't bother reading the years - it might say 2007 but a 2009 will turn up! Pricey for what it... More
