I visited this restaurant earleier this week and was very much looking forward to the experience based on the reputation. What a huge disappointment and I have to agree with other reviewers in that this restaurant is ridiculously priced. The staff were not the most pleasant people I have met to the point of being 'cold' and without personality. At... More

I've been to the Chop and Ale House a couple of time now. Being a sort of sub- restaurant to the Champany itself, it's much better priced - offers a different experience, more like a pub almost. They do an brilliant Steak and Chips, in the region of £18 - 28 pounds from what I remember, which combined with beautiful... More

The Champany Inn has a formal restaurant which was awarded a Michelin Star last year and more informal Chop and Ale House which does not accept pre bookings. One of the things I hate most and which I generally refuse to do is to stand in a queue for anything. The fact I will often queue for 45 to 90... More

We visited the Champany at the begining of March 2012. We had booked a table in the resuraunt and also decided to stay overnight in one of the guest rooms. As the website points out, its a restaurant with rooms, not a hotel so some of the traditional hotel services are not available, although to be honest that did not... More

The Chop & Ale House is consistently good and serves up the best steak around. Unfortunately you can't book the C & AH, you just have to turn up and it can be busy in the early part of the evvening. The main restaurant is very, very expensive.

The steaks (popeseye + t-bone) were absolutely excellent, but for the cost, I want nice mustards / salads, space, decor and ambience. The burgers were disappointingly bland and expensive, and not a patch on e.g. Buffalo Grill in Edinburgh. Random Overall, this is a lovely building with a hideous 1970s decor and feel. It's not relaxed and informal, it's not... More

Had heard good reviews of Champany and being a bit off a steak lover thought I would try this place out. We visited the restaurant after looking at both menus and deciding we wanted fillet steak. I opted for the pea soup to start with bread selection and my wife went for black pudding and rosti, soup was lovely but... More

A while ago I want to the Chop & Ale House next to the main Restaurant I found it good food one of the burgers was swimming in too much sauce but apart from that the meal was ok I’ll try and keep this short Champany Inn it’s like entering a Hammer House of Horror film set with spooky staff... More

Wonderful food and first class beef served here. But it comes at a price. Their Steak and Ale house is better value but you can have some time to wait for a table. as no bookings are taken.
