Peace and elegance with delicious food. I had coffee and cake and there was more than one cake that I could choose from. And it was DIVINE! Orange and almond cake... oozing with glorious syrup, not too sweet and incredibly fresh... Excuse me while I mop the keyboard... Coffee was perfect. Companions had sensible and nutritious food like scrambled eggs... More

Escape George and Prince streets and hobnob with the locals at this little cafe, mentioned in Alexander McCall Smith's mystery novels. We had "tea" here - the desserts/sweets are superb. Also delicious was the hummus and oat cakes.

I arrived early for my guest so I had a bit of time to observe life at G & T before I could order. The staff seemed to enjoy a good rapport with their boss and one another with plenty of banter and laughter going on, both at the front and at the back of the shop. Good to see... More

We ordered the cheese 'platter' for £10 and were absolutely shocked at the tiny amount of food we received. A few slices of crusty bread, a couple of salad leaves and only two types of cheese (a few thin slices of each). One of the cheeses was quite an unpleasant hard cheese. Hardly enough food to fill one person. To... More

We go to G&T on Sundays for a relaxing and consistently delicious light lunch. The people watching/eavesdropping is an added attraction. More seriously the ingredients are excellent, the various combination platters are yummy and the cakes are first class. For those who like this sort of place G&T is the place for them. Those seeking somewhere cheap (and perhaps some... More

Clearly one of those "Edinburgh Establishments", i.e. New-Town/Anglo-Scot. Giggled at a funny geezer who turned out to be the owner. Was delighted to see a customer relaxed enough to be breast-feeding when I arrived, but later on there was a stooshie about someone (someone else?!) changing a baby's nappy IN THE CAFE... which drew one vociferous complainant/. Bizarre. Would go... More

I haven't been in Edinburgh for lunch for a long time and was very disappointed with where I ended up. It was overrun with staff and yet they still couldn't offer close to a good service.
