My friend and I went, thanks to reviews on TripAdvisor. Thank goodness we gave it a go. You walk in and it looks desolate from the outset, but you can down some stairs and it's cosy. It was very busy, which is always a good sign and appeared to be full of locals. I ordered the surprise menu, superb two... More

We went to the Cellar Door to celebrate our engagement during a trip to Edinburgh. We had seen the restaurant earlier in the day and got a table without booking when we walked in later that evening. It was a Tuesday night so the restaurant was lacking a little bit in ambiance (there were only two other tables) but the... More

I went here recently with my Dad and his wife and my fiancee. This is the second time I've been to the Cellar Door and you won't be disappointed. I'm not that brave with food so I went for the soup and a steak. The soup was piping hot and a generous sized bowl. My Dad and his wife both... More

I booked the Cellar Door for my husbands 40th meal due to the strong reviews on trip advisor. I began to worry about my choice when several people I asked had not heard of the restaurant, including the taxi driver with 22 years experience! We decided to risk it and we're not disappointed. The restarant is quite small and cozy... More

Went here with my wife and a friend for dinner. Service was outstanding, food and ambience were excellent. Extremely well priced for the quality.

Service was excellent, as was the food. It's 4 stars instead of 5 due to the menu being a little out of date for wine (we were told our requested wine was no longer available) and some key steaks being off that evening, but they were minor niggles based on the overall experience. Queenie scallops seemed a touch on the... More

My Mum and I came here for dinner on a weekend away. We had scallops for starters & then we shared the chateaubriand for the main which was fantastic. Served with chips, coleslaw & a salad. Absolutely done to perfection, we enjoyed with a lovely glass of red wine then had lovely dessert too. The Scottish waiter was adorable and... More

We love the Cellar Door and have been here many times. I even organised my works Christmas Dinner here and everybody loved it. it has become our fall back restaurant when we want some thing tasty and decently priced. Being able to BYOB makes things really reasonable despite quite a high corkage charge. I love the surprise menu, it works... More

I visited The Cellar Door for a working lunch with a colleague on a Wednesday afternoon. You may walk past it if you did not know where it was but the restaurant can be accessed at two points on george IV Bridge, one via an outdoor stairway and the second is located in a Chocolate shop slightly further up the...
