Friendly, cosy feeling place & also high ceiling & airy so not stuffy. Nice veggie options (though not overly exciting). Good guinness but would have liked more draught options. Went twice. Will go again. Allows dogs.

A place to go and relax, chat with friends, enjoy the laid-back service and friendliness of Nom De Plume. Dogs welcome, other clients love them, in short - excellent value for money, lovely varied choice of food and presented with style. If you want a calm evening with good real food and acceptable wine, this is the place for you...

I class this place as an LGBT cafe but I think a lot of passing trade is not aware of this and so, generally the crowd is quite mixed.
Food comes in hearty, generous portions. There is a good selection of nice beers.
Staff are relaxed and friendly like the atmosphere here. It's good to have an LGBT space that...

We had just arrived in Edinburgh and were looking for a lite supper. We ordered bread and olive oil, chorizos and olives and a smoked salmon salad. The bread was soft and delicious, the chorizo just spicy enough and the olives were marinated in garlic and salt. So good! Wait staff was friendly and the chef came out to chat...

The place does have a nice feel to it but the food is mediocre for the price and the service the night we were in was awful - arrogant waiter who really couldn't care he'd brought us a wine we didn't order, or like, because they no longer stock the one on the out-of-date menu. No offer to replace it,...

Have visited this popular cafe/restaurant three times over the past six weeks - for morning coffee, at lunchtime and for dinner. In bitterly cold weather their little stoves are warm and welcoming, as was the service, if a little haphazard. Varied and unpretentious menu at very reasonable prices. A lovely, relaxed place to stop by in Broughton Street.
Came across this lovely and very eclectic restaurant when visiting our daughter in Edinburgh and wanting to avoid the Princes Street/Royal Mile crowds. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced and the staff were very friendly. Loved the decor and there was enough variety in the menu to please the whole family. Will certainly return next time we are...

I go here a lot and enjoy every visit. Consistently good value feel good food.
We stopped in here after a wander around the new town and were delighted we did. The decor is interesting, the service friendly, the bottled beers excellent and the vegetarian options excellent. We will certainly go again when we are next in Edinburgh.
I didn't realise until I saw the other reviews that this place is linked to the LBTG...

Welcoming and cozy (but surprisingly large) eaterie above Edinburgh LGBT Centre (the oldest outside the USA apparently). Small but varied menu - good vegetarian options - with a reasonable drink selection including a few eclectic bottled beers. Good coffee. Licencing laws preclude children on the premises - which suits most LGBT people!
