We sought out the John Hewitt because it was noted for its real ale selection--something you cannot find in the South of Ireland. What we found was great beer, tremendous food (lunch only), and friendly staff. We returned for music on two nights--traditional on Tuesdays and jazz on Fridays. Oh, and there's a fire.

Relaxed and friendly bar in the city centre very close to the cathedral. Good ales and bands most evenings who don't drown out the conversation.

Another recommendation we got from our friend and again totally hit the mark. Tucked away in the cathedral quarter, it is a cosy pub and was just what we were looking for with it being cold and wet outside. Portions were very generous, food fresh and well presented and great value for money. The staff were friendly and the pub atmosphere was lovely for a relaxed lunch
