My husband and I had one day in Oxford and had planned to lunch at Browns Cafe in the market, mainly due to the great reviews here. However our entrance to Brown's was greeted by a small child screaming his head off, so back out we went. Around the corner and up Turl Street we soon passed a lively lunch... More

This place has a very interesting vibe to it. Tha fact that all their food is made from organic, sustainable produces does help. The menu was varied, even if the options were short. The food was well made and tasteful, but there was something lacking and the portions were on the small side. To sum it up I would return... More

Sorry you felt the portions were small - not a normal problem for us, so really sorry! - , but glad you enjoyed the food. Thanks! More

Never eaten here in the evening but have done lunch and tea and cake. Good quality ingredients and service is mostly good (sometimes flaky). Profits go to the Hub and other charities. Always busy. Distinctive and comfortable over several floors. Very clunky disabled access is the only down side.

Hi - thanks for taking the time to write a kind review. With the listed building access is pretty tough, but we do have disabled access to the restaurant floor with a ramp and accessible toilet, so please don't be put off! More

Did not actually manage to eat here. We reserved a table for 8.30pm but by 9pm our order had still not been taken. Eventually ordered after asking someone to take it. Their menu is small, 4 starters and 4 mains. Tried to order vegetarian option only to be told it was sold out. The waitress went off and returned to... More

This restaurant has unusual dishes but quite pricey. The tables are bare and suffers from the general noisy student clientele. The food was edible but not much of it.As sais, a bit pricey - two mains, one sweet, tea and coffee £29.00 but possibly that is the norm for Oxford.I had chicken in red wine which ended up like a gruel; my wife... Hi, we're very sorry you felt that the food was poor value for money. We try our level best to offer great value and believe that two course lunch for two with tea/coffee for under £30 represents excellent value in the city centre of Oxford. We hope your wife enjoyed her frittata and are disappointed that you didn't find the... More

Rather different to some of the more posh Oxford restaurants. The furniture is rather basic. Service was a little slow to start with with. We had curried vegetables - surprisingly spicy and smoked salmon. For mains excellent roast beef and thickly sliced gammon. Very good value. We liked the staff. Would certainly go back.

Good food, good atmosphere, reasonably priced. What is more, all the profits from the restaurant go to the Oxford Hub charity which provides support for students in Oxford - check out oxfordhub.org. Incidentally, I am not a student in Oxford or anywhere else.

The main course was nice (haddock fish cake) and you could tell that it was freshly-prepared, served on a bed of green salad leaves, although hearty appetites might need to compliment this with a side. The dessert (ginger pudding and clotted cream) was disappointing. It was more cake than pudding, more treacle than ginger and would have worked better with... More

I dropped in for a quiet coffee and a bite for brunch. I'd intended to try this place for months and expected it to be buzzing with conversation and general chatter. As it turned out, it was quite quiet (around 9.30am) and I was able to indulge in a cozy sofa bathed in the rays of the sun next to... More
