We arrived here after what felt like our toughest day. this place had exactly what we needed. Good pub food and a good selection of ales. Could be viewed as slightly pricey, but I think the quality justified this. From a 3 man team carrying all our camping gear doing the wall, a warm friendly pub is always going to... More

We visited this pub on the bank holiday weekend and it was heaving with people. Our party of 4 chose soup for three of us and one of us had a cheese sandwich. It was Ok for a quick snack, but we felt that the prices were quite high for what was served. The bowls of soup were not that... More

The place was alright and the food wasn't amazing, the staff were nice. I don't think I would be returning in a hurry, however if I was in the area already I may pop in. I had the chicken curry that I'd read good reviews about yet I didn't see how great it was, it reminded me of my old... More

We visited in a group with two children having booked a table in the 'restraurant'. Adult food was ok for pub grub. Kids menu was not great so we asked if we could have children's portions of an adult meal - the waiter suggested we got one portion and split it between the two children so we ordered this. He... We stopped here by chance, ravenous after a long walk along Hadrians Wall in cold, sleet and wind. Luckily we seemed to time our arrival just right. It obviously had been very busy before our arrival and there were still plenty of people there but we found a table right by the roaring fire (much needed) and were served straight... More

I had a great meal and pudding here, followed by an evening's drinking and met a lot of interesting people to chat to. The service was good, the staff were friendly and I would definitely recommend it as a stop off point to other walkers/cyclists visiting the National Park area.

We first visited this pub late afternoon & were delighted with the service we received. The bar tender was great, he discussed the various beers with my husband & even allowed him to try them. My husband was so pleased he wanted to return for his birthday dinner a few nights later, however we had a completely different experiences. We... More

Enjoyed an excellent chicken curry (with the option of half portion of rce and half chips) and a massive helping of belly pork with mash were our choices- both substantialn and very good. A banana and toffee sunday to share as dessert was also good, as were the real ales. Service was generally good, and certanly friendly, but at some... More

We had an overnight stay as part of a "Daily Deal" so this couldnt be faulted for value for money. The rooms were very well equipped to a high standard. However the dining experience on the evening was a bit of a let down. The menu isnt extensive and two of their A La Carte main courses were "off" (Slow... More

Great choice of real ales some of which are brewed especially for the pub. Food was good and interesting. We just had snacks. I had pancakes with bacon and scrambled egg. My wife had a fish finger sandwich served in a slightly unusual way. Both meals were good. I'd recommend it for anyone who's spent a few hours trapsing around... More
