Description: The kitchen is the soul of a restaurant as it is of a home, providing warmth, nourishment and evocative smells. An air of expectancy surrounds the kitchen as the work of the day begins. It is a place of hard work, companionship and great rewards, and most importantly, it brings people together to feast on the results. Ganapati is the south Indian name for the elephant-headed god Ganesh. He is the well-loved remover of obstacles, with a particular fondness for sweets.

Tucked away in green and pleasant posh Peckham is one of the best Indian restaurants in London, indeed, anywhere. This is a SE London secret I'm going to share. There is a south Indian slant to the cooking style so lots of fish and vegetable dishes but it's incredibly imaginative. They do extraordinary things with beetroot for instance. The spicing... More

I went here with my elderly parents and they were treated like royalty by a very patient waitress which was lovely. We took a risk and ordered Indian wine and it was actually very good. This is proper Indian food...no other restaurant around really does that.

My wife and I booked for lunch on a Friday. This place is easy to find (it's on the corner of a croosraod junction). It has lovely large wooden tables, simple chairs, simple decor and simply wonderful staff. The young lady who served us knew everything about the food and also about what went well together. We started with poppadoms... More

I've been a few times to this restaurant, tucked away in a leafy Peckham side street and it never fails to excite. The food is wonderful, warming home cooked Southern Indian. The parathas are the best I've tasted anywhere. The service is friendly and informal and there's a great choice of Meantime beers. They also do takeaways (must be collected)... More

Ganapati is local to me so I'm trying to love it....just not quite sure what stops me. I will keep going. I don't think I make the best choices in dishes. I do like the fact that they use very little oil. The place is small and gets booked up quickly so I would avoid turning up without a reservation.

We had a lovely feast of food inspired by Southern India at Ganapati on Easter Sunday evening. It has been a couple of years since I last had the pleasure of eating here and I'm pleased to be able to report that the standard of food and service are both still excellent. We booked a week or so in advance... More

The incredible flavour, aroma and texture of the food is unforgettable. I take all my visitors to London to Ganapati even though I now live several miles away. My favourite is the curd rice ... it is sensational. I bought some pickles to take to my in laws in South Africa and they can't get over the taste. I heard... More

We visited Ganapati for the first time this evening and food was sensational. Simple, yet so very tasty. The wine list is lacking a little and perhaps a little expensive, but going for the food is worth it.
