Description: The Criterion is an elegant and beautiful restaurant in the heart of Piccadilly Circus. Originally opened in 1874, this romantic Grade II listed restaurant has undergone a gentle restoration, adding warmth and comfort to a renowned fine dining venue. Regarded as the most spectacular dining room in London, The Criterion restaurant exudes timeless opulence. Sourcing the finest and freshest ingredients from the British Isles, Head Chef Matthew Foxon has created a modern European menu that is both simple and luxurious. The culinary highlights on the menu include Grilled Yellow Fin Tuna, Dukkah Spiced Kezie Farm Ostrich, Kentish Lamb Rack, and Devon Duck Breast. The grand surroundings of The Criterion also present an inviting setting for traditional afternoon tea. A selection of finger sandwiches, homemade cakes, scones and tarts are served alongside a choice of tea or a glass of Criterion's House Champagne. Live music performances every Friday and Saturday night from 7pm add to the charming ambience, whilst the famous Long Bar entices diners to enjoy various cocktails and wines, alongside half-dozen oysters, in the comfort of red velvet seating. The only restaurant in London with an enchanting Neo-Byzantine design, The Criterion Restaurant is an alluring dining experience for you to discover.

Even though we were a very large group of diners (50) in a banquet setting the service was superbly done by a very attractive staff of waiters. I recommend that one at least dress elegantly casual for this very beautiful venue. The food was good even though it was mass produced for our group.

I took a friend for an afternoon tea at Criterion on a special occasion and was very left very disappointed. Two problems: 1. poor service 2. very little food (not value for money) 1. Service: while the venue screams ‘ expensive’ and ‘luxury’, the service was far from it. The waiters, while rather nice, didn’t seem to know what to... More

The restaurant is very smart and luckily, as we came straight from work, we were well dressed. I would not have felt comfortable if I was not in my work dress. The food was fine, with pretentions of grandeur. I'd say go for the experience, not the food.

Had a great meal with friends at the Criterion. The food was delicious and great value. Staff polite, did not rush us despite it being really busy. The design and decor is lovely. Will definitely go again.

I had never been to the Criterion before but gone past it countless times .If you're a visitor to London its right in the heart of the City opposite Eros. Certainly the decor is impressive and you can spend cocktail hour in the bar first. We were welcomed in a friendly way and the waiter took our drink orders quickly... More

I visited after it was shown to us as the first stop on our Brit movies Sherlock Holmes walking tour. I have been to the Criterion theatre, but never knew the restaurant existed. My husband and I were dressed VERY casually as was our son who joined us, but the staff were wonderful- very professional and courteous. We had a... More

My wife and I had lunch at the Criterion. We found this place by accident and I had not seen any Tripadvisor reviews. The building and furnishing are beautiful. We already had dinner reservations elsewhere later in the evening, so we ate lite sharing a fried tomino goat cheese, foie gras torchon, a fillet of cod, a bottle of wine... More

Criterion is just across the piccadilly circus and in a very beautiful historical building. This is magnificient. But neither the starters nor the meals are so delicious. The portions are very little, and I did not find them delicous. The worst thing about this restaurant is the service, it is bad. The waiting time is too long and very hard... More

I can only talk about the set meal which I had today. It's £19 for 2 courses and £23 for 3. I only managed 2 courses. For that sort of money in London we are usually talking a couple of sandwiches. Better talk about what most of us had - duck egg on brioche with parma ham to start. This... More
