Came for a family dinner, 5 adults. Lovely cozy table, friendly and knowledgeable staff. We all had for the £28 set menu dinner which I felt was great value for the quality. The veal and steak and onion puddings were the stars of the meal. Can't wait for an excuse to go back.

Such a friendly place my daughter held her wedding reception there. We had a great time with about fifty guests. Brunch is also a great option!

We visited here on a Sunday late morning for breakfast. The service was good. The food was nothing special. We had cooked breakfasts and although tasty, not very big for the money you pay and we were a bit disappointed. It served a purpose but I would extend my search next time to look for something of better value.

In summary: acceptable food ruined by poor service and sloppy standards. This is a casual restaurant. We were seated in a rather cramped booth. A black substance on the bottom of my wife's wine glass caused it to stick to the tablecloth. When the water carafe arrived it had dried cabbage stuck to the outside. When I sat back in... More

I discovered this restaurant while attending theHugenot Festival, so could not resist the Hugenot special fixed menu or around £14 for two courses. I had the Pate starter followed by Mussels and could have swapped the starter for Apple Pie. The atmosphere was excellent, the service good and friendly and this menu certainly was reasonable value. So I would recommend... More

Visited this restaurant by chance on a Saturday lunchtime. After initially being told there would be 20 minute wait for the table and that as there was no room for us to wait in the restaurant, we would have to leave and come back later, we decided just to leave. Luckily at that very moment a table became suddenly available... More

We stumbled across this restaurant close to Spitalfields Market on Sunday - in time for a late big breakfast. (on sale up until 1 pm). The staff were all good nature, helpful and fun. The place has a lovely atmosphere. The tea and coffee were excellent and the breakfast well cooked and plentiful. We will go back (the Sunday lunch,... More

Lovely location to the side of Spitalfields with the Hawksmoor church at the end of the road. Pleasant ambience and the food we had was good quality. Perhaps contributory negligence on my part to ask for my sirloin well done, but a 45 minute wait was excessive. Perhaps they were rummaging around in the kitchen looking for a suitable microscope... A friend fell over this restaurant/bar and what a nice discovery this was. It's not too busy so feels very intimate which on a Friday night in London is a miracle. We only stayed in the bar area which was very good - wine good value too. Service a bit slow, but a good find.

We stumbled across The English Restaurant on the way back to Liverpool Street, and we are very pleased we did. The tables are cosy and private in the booths, the menu is classically English and there is a superb wine list, with many quality French wines. What a change this makes, especially in London! The staff are attentive and nothing... More
