A decent dinner and good value, chilled restaurant with football on the tv. Ideal for relaxed catch up with a pal.
I first went to El Gaucho just after it opened, and it was great. Lively, enthusiastic staff all wanting to show the best that Argentina can offer. Over the years I have returned many times, but it is no longer the 5* rating it once held. Sadly it is all to average. Nothing much to criticise, it is tucked away... More
We ate here mid week following a visit to the science museum near by. We opted for burgers, which were fantastic. They dont come with accompaniments however which do need to be ordered separately, but again the fries were lovely. The only down side was the price of wine, at £8.00/9.00 glass this seemed some what expensive in comparison to... More
Tucked away down a flight of stairs in the basement of a hotel, but don't let this put you off at all, inside fast efficient service selling prime steaks, cooked to order to provide what has to be some of the best steak i've had out of the Americas. Wines are South American and well chosen, Steaks can be served... More
Apparently this place now belongs to a private equity group. And it shows. Staff great but otherwise every single corner has been cut. Just struggled through a steak that tasted of nothing. The mustard, the sort you get at a motorway pull in just, made it taste even worse. Walk past here often but won't come here again.
This restaurant use to be one of the best kept secrets in South Kensington, with great food and great service at very moderate prices. in my latest visit, I found that the service has deteriorated and the food as well. The sirloin was good as usual, but the rib eye was tough. The young female server has been replaced with... More
We had to wait half an hour for a table, but it was a Friday and we were sent next door for an aperitif. The cocktails were on the pricey side, but in line with similar places in South Kensington. As for the food, when we did sit down, the service was spot on, although I will add that the... More
Decent burger and just ok fries. Mashed potatoes were terrible. Arrogant waiter and poor service. They charged us for 2 additional drinks which we did not order and I don't believe it was by accident. Check your bill.
Quality of the beef was outstanding. Cooked to perfection (we had the filet, medium rare -- it was beautiful). The rest of the meal (rocket salad, ok, had to dress it ourselves, spinach was fine, chips were, well, chips -- hard to go wrong there) was fine, nothing special. As other reviewers have mentioned, the decor is a bit cheesy... More
I don't think I've ever had a bad Argentinian steak and El Gaucho was no exception. We had Fillets and Ribeyes and they were faultless. Grilled corn on the cob starter was yummy too. Desserts were just too much for us. The Argentinian Rose wine (Malbec?) was very "more"-ish. We would highly recommend this restaurant.
