We were a party of 5 couples and we found that this pub had a back room and we ate there on our first evening from the set menu and because we enjoyed the atmosphere so much and we could all sit together in comfort we returned again the following evening. The staff were very helpful and pleasant and the... More

Back at the Wig on Monday for quick visit, and what a lovely lunch; Air-dried beef with blue cheese "Bon bons" (little deepfried nuggets of delcious stilton), and chicory to freshen it up, followed by Tempura salmon with a stunning caramalised aubergine slice, on top of couscous, with a tangy orange sauce; just perfect! Strawberry tart,, kind of like a... More

We trailed all round the Cathedral area for a restaurant with appealing food at reasonable prices. The Wig and Mitre achieved both. On a very busy Friday night the waitress found us a table and the Two course set meal was superb. The Steak and Salmon main courses and sweets were excellent. Anyone getting a two course meal each and... More

Mmmmmmm, but pricey but you get what you pay for. It is a place to have a bit of a treat, whether it be an especially tasty sandwich or a gourmet meal. More

Visited without booking on a Tuesday night and the place was almost full! Thought there was a recession on?! The staff were still able to sort us a table for 2. Chef Barry Dawson knocked out this delicious starter which i commend to you all. A more traditional steak main was up to the standard you'd expect. I'd been too... More

We spent an afternoon in the pub enjoying the fine ales and wines. Ordered some starters from the menu as snacks and these were excellent. Great atmosphere made better by the terrible weather outside. More

I am giving this venue two stars because it has been quite good in the past. However, our last visit was abysmal. My wife chose smoked salmon, but that was not available; instead she went for Crayfish Caesar Salad ( - the title should have warned her). This turned out to be almost inedible because it was laced with a... More

Although it is in the old part of town the style of this pub is almost that of a "friends" style pub/coffee house. As such, it is a great place to relax at any time of the day, reading the papers over a pint of ale or a cup of coffee while watching the world go by. The real ales... More

Despite arriving at a busy time of the evening, we were seated straight away and settled down to browse through the very tempting menu. We started by ordering a pint of the cask ale and, I have to say, it was wonderful! Another round of the Lincoln ale, please! The service was excellent considering how busy the restaurant was and,...
