Description: Among the oldest and most well known restaurants in the UK, Englishs of Brighton is found in the citys famed and fabulous Lanes. Set within what was originally three fishermens cottages, and with wonderful pavement dining too, Englishs is atmospheric and utterly traditional with a touch of grandiose Edwardian styling which undoubtedly appealed to such luminaries as Charlie Chaplin, Vivien Leigh and Joan Collins - just a few of Englishs infamous fans. Owned by the same family since 1945, Englishs maintains its commitment to serving the finest seafood in the area with a special emphasis on locally caught oysters. Head Chef Gavin Leigh prides himself on using ingredients sourced nearby wherever possible and insists on sustainable seafood from accredited suppliers.

Today I visited English's Seafood Restaurant & Oyster Bar in Brighton and oh what a lovely surprise. It was a beautiful day and we sat outside at this very special fish / seafood restaurant. The table were beautifully prepared and the terrace full of clients all seemingly enjoying their lunch. We were a party of 6 and very much looking... More

Step back in time in this lovely seafood restaurant. It is the setting of an old house with a number of small rooms, we were taken upstairs to the first floor and given the window seat over looking the street. (no sea view available unfortunately). Great service, although the gentleman we had was a bit lacking in personality, but he... More

This place inside always reminds me of fish restuarants in Paris with its red seats and long white table linen which as a couple you can sit side by side which is much better The service is faultless very good wine list (although a little pricey but they house wine is very good and not too over the top on... Should be 5 stars really but it can be a bit samey - wish there were more veggie options, but then if you fancy fish in a nice old fashioned atmosphere, this place is great. More

It was our first trip to The Lanes in Brighton and we were looking for somewhere to have a nice lunch. We turned a corner and lo and behold - spied the word, 'Oysters'. What a stunning little restaurant this is, faultless service, great ambience and excellent food. We had oysters, dressed crab and steamed mussels, accompanied by champagne -... More

They were faultless. The whole experience was fantastic. The food was well cooked and well presented. Not the cheapest of places but you get... More

Having tried to get a lst minute table before on visits to brighton, this time we booked ahead and requested a specific table (window), and wow this restaurant lived up to our expectations. We started with 12 Oysters, the provenance of which ws listed (i.e. where they are gornw/harvested).... More
