Having walked up and down Swanage High Street looking at different menu's and prices we decided to try The Ship Inn, which was our first visit, good choice. The food was lovely and it was great value for money. I can highly recommend the tapas.

Having often eaten at this pub in previous seasons whilst staying locally, we returned last week with 4 friends, to celebrate my 60th birthday. It will remain a memorable experience, probably not for the reasons we'd hoped. Having arrived before us one couple order drinks in advance, having asked for a beer to be recommended they went with it. No problem,...

We visited this pub for the first time last week and really loved the interior. They have obviously spent a lot of time and money refurbishing this place to a high standard. It's large with lovely furniture and a couple of little tables tucked in the bay window areas at the front, which looked really cosy! They had 3 real...

Varied lunch menu. Good value. Good choice of drinks on tap. One of the male bar staff seemed like he wanted to be somewhere else, but on the whole very good and would visit again.
We were recommended to go here by our neighbours (we recently moved to the next village to the ship inn). First impression, nice decor, lovely flag stone floors, but smelt of wet dog. We went with another couple and I know the boys were not impressed with the beer - chewy and stale. Our starters arrived and my partner had...

Really disappointed with our food. Out of 4 courses eaten only one was vaguely OK. Deep fried cheese starter thing was poor, pork loin stuff main dreadful, fish and chips OK but chips lukewarm - a cardinal sin.
Had 2 pints - Bridport Golden might well be nice but was cloudy and smelled like real ale used to smell before...

On New Year's Day I popped into The Ship Inn for the first time. The man behind the bar was happy to oblige when I asked him if they could make me an Irish coffee. I spent a half hour or so in this lovely old pub resting my feet in readiness for the walk back to Swanage. I left...

The Ship tries hard to be "Cheffy" but would be better to stick to basic pub grub. Our food was OK but no more which was a great pity because it would have been excellent if it had been more basic.Beer was OK but expensive.
The 'pub grub' was fine but the four real ales on offer were all cloudy ( to varying degrees) and served much too cold. Not enough staff so service was on the slow side. Wouldn't rush back !
Popped in here on a Friday night We'd arrived on a camping trip, the weather was foul, so having put up the tent we needed somewhere to warm up and have something to eat which didnt involve cooking by torchlight Food was good standard pub grub, service was reasonable - did the job
