Two couples arrived at 7pm for the tasting menu. We finally left after nearly 4 hours (after 3 we would gladly have left but had not then completed the marathon). The service is impeccable, the drinks pairing is perfect, but we all thought that the menu pushed the boundaries of experimentation a bit too far. The ladies did not like... More

The Room at the Elephant offers fine dining and holds 1 michelin star, the Brasserie at The Elephant (floor below) is presumably more relaxed. We ate at The Room and very very good it was too. Jason looked after us from the minute we arrived and is very knowledgable. We opted for the tasting menu which was incredibly good value.... More

The tasting menu in the upstairs room....I'm not going to recite it, it's on the website and an enthusiastic scribbler a couple of reviews below has described it at some length. Suffice to say it is very good. Take it with the offered wines - they seem to know what they are doing! Get a window seat at sunset and... More

Visited the elephant with colleagues recently ana was very impressed by the menu and the skill of the chefs. Had lovely scallops to start, perfectly cooked with a celeriac puree an then the most delicious poached haddock with truffled macaroni. Wonderful. Very good wine list and some loveloy local cheeses. Nice atmosphere and easy to get to. Highly recommended.

An amazing meal by talented chefs. The service was friendly and atmosphere was warm. The scallops are gorgeous and duck was tasty and perfectly cooked. The wine was an excellent fleurie. We could not fault the food at all and it made my birthday night. Good food with fair prices for local food ingredients! Well done

Indeed - this is the acid test of the Michelin peoples' star system. And for the Elephant in Torquay my answer is a definite "yes". On the TripAdvisor scale this is clearly 5 stars - whether it is the best in Torquay, I have no way of knowing - but I susepct it is. And here's why. We were in... More

Having visited The Elephant brasserie quite a few times we are always pleased to have new menu choices and the recent changes still offer a very varied menu which found us trying something different. The lunch time set menu is great value and with friendly service this is the best place to dine when looking for quality in food and... More

Hard to pinpoint why we were disappointed. Food came out very fast and was good and hot, but almost too fast really. No space at all between courses. We had the 'pulled pork' and it was so sweet, I knew within the first bite I would struggle to eat/enjoy my meal. I should have sent it back as the menu... More

We visited the Elephant about three weeks ago during the week. It was a quite evening and we were met by some excellent staff and shown to our table....we had arrived early, but not a problem. The simple menu was a delight and the staff attentive but not intrusive. The service was first rate and courses well spaced and perfect.... More

Although by no means a regular, have dined here infrequently since it opened and never been disappointed by the food or the service. Latest visit was for lunch and once again the service was excellent; professional, attentive but not obtrusive. The food was flavoursome and well presented. Portion sizes ideal for me but it is not a restaurant for those... More
