Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Slowest service we've experienced in Canada!! Considering most of our order was deep fried, we figured they must be out catching the fish fresh. Our table was one of 4 in the whole place, their looks of faded shadows and hunger should have been warning...signs the moment we walked in. Our waitress, whilst lovely, may have been new to serving - but the lack of support she was given by her senior did not go unnoticed. It took 40 minutes to get 2 glasses of water... Poor communication fueled our frustrations - which is probably a good thing considering we had no food to do the job. When the freshly caught fish did eventually come out, underwhelmed is an understatement! Would not ever recommend, in fact I'd highly discourage future potential diners, would not ever return.More

The service was attentive and the food about on par with what you would expect. One cannot be too picky in Canmore on price.

Choose this place because of how close it was to our hotel. The food was great but I took an hour to be served. Could have been understaffed that night? We had the elk stew and burger both were very good! This doubles as a...breakfast place in a condo complex so the atmosphere was average. We were very lucky to get a window seat so our dinner view was very nice with mountains!More

We came to this restaurant because of its close proximity to our hotel. My wife ordered the chicken chipotle panini, but it was not a panini, it was more like a sub sandwich. She also ordered a salad for her side with ranch dressing. 30...minutes later, when our food was brought, the server hands my wife her plate with the salad for her side and said there was no ranch dressing. They were out. When she requested a different side instead of the salad, the server acted like she was put out. I had the elk burger and it was unremarkable. The service was slow and not very friendly, and the food was average. We would not choose to eat here again.More

We had nachos with beef, steak sandwich, and chicken fettuccine with garlic toast. The nachos were good, decent size. The steak sandwich was average, a bit over cooked. The chicken fettuccine was decent sized, very flavourful. The atmosphere was ok, service was average.More

If you enjoy good food, good beer and good company - I highly recommend that you visit The Wandering Elk. It’s a little off the Main Street but you won’t be disappointed. I was fortunate that during my extended stay, my group dined here on...a number of occasions. The food was reasonably priced while the staff offer a warm and friendly atmosphere. If you’re a local, I would suggest this is a great place for mates to catch up for some pre-drinks before heading out into the local Canmore nightlife.More

Just a quick meal here during a stopover. Located in the lobby of the Windtower lodge we had 2 glasses of wine and shared a pizza. Service was a little slow but very pleasant and the Hawaiian pizza had lots of real pineapple on it....All in all, good value for a hotel based restaurant. Also, you can buy wine and beer in this restaurant so good to know for travellers on their way through. There is a walk in fridge located in the back of the restaurant.More
