We dined in this restaurant over 4 years ago and to be honest we still remember it as one of the best Sea Bass meals we have ever had. The food, the ambience, the location, the waiters, the owner all made our visit to Ill Gatto Nero very special. Our friends returned a year later and brought us home a... More

We booked from Australia after seeing the restaurant on a couple of tv programs. We were so let down by the quality of the food, the fish seemed rubbery and not fresh, it lacked any flavor. The service was cold. I would not recommend this establishment, there we're far busier trattorias near by.

We had the tasting starter for two. The only problem was that one of us is allergic to bivalves. Not a problem - the waiter promised to have those cooked and served separately. They and the rest were splendid (and, on three serving dishes, almost filled the table). Our main course was the beautifully fresh and subtly flavoured baked turbot... More

The food here is unquestionably excellent. It is not cheap, but that is par for the course for good food in Venice. A risotto for two made with a lagoon fish is rich and very tasty, but 32 Euro for a small bowl of risotto where the fish is dispersed through the dish as a seasoning rather than forming any... More

We were looking forward to dine here after seeing it at Jamie Oliver's cookbook and Anthony Bourdain's episode on its competitor Da Romano which was our first choice. Our foodie concierge persuaded us to choose Il Gatto Nero over Da Romano because that's THE place where true Venetians dine at. After facing a 1-hour vaporetto trip on a cold and... More

The food was lovely , the staff v nice and I LOVED the crockery! I really recommend it. One downside though is the loo! It had no seat and was a strange low down affair and a bit tatty. Sounds silly but us girlies like a nice loo! It really let down a fab, clean, nicely decorated restaurant.

Not only did did Gatto Nero offer superb service and food, I was actually able to get Gluten Free pasta. The meal was delicious, the wine wonderful and the service attentive. I'm only sorry I can't go back whenever I want. Thank you Mr. Max.

I enjoyed the best seafood I've ever tasted at this restaurant. Such an enjoyable experience - staff were great & food was exceptional. Will definitely go back if I ever have the good fortune of visiting Burano in Venice again!

I note with interest that two individuals have written bad reviews. IGNORE! One individual complains that the staff were rude??? I can only imagine with good reason! another that his langoustine were not cracked! If you are so pretentious that you cannot eat a langoustine without help, then you should stick to the kind of vacuous establishment where they also... More
