Went for a night out with another couple, we started with 20 oysters to start, the mignette was spectacular! We decided to go ahead with the "Drill", its the 4 course tasting... It was actually an 11 course tasting served on 4 plates... The first plate included a baked oyster, a seared scallop and a shrimp... Second plate was an... More

I saw this review tonight on Trip advisor and I booked right through an ad on this site I walked there as it is a 6 minute walk from our hotel and OMG this spot was so amazing, food was great but the ambiance the feeling of the place was of the top. this is all about history - and... More

Our last night "down east" was wonderful dining at The Press Gang. Beautiful restaurant in what was the first stone building in Halifax dating to the 1700's. Superb menu - it all looked good. The scallop appetizer was terrific and the halibut main course was fantastic. Top it off with a charming attentive waitress. We have dined in fine restaurants... More

Had dinner recently at The Press Gang to celebrate our son's graduation from law school. Our meal included orders for steak tartare, deep fried calamari and a salad as starters. All were excellent. Mains ranged from filet mignon to seared halibut to chicken. All were excellent. Cooked as ordered. Very tasty. There was a jazz band playing at the front... More

My husband and I were underwhelmed. Great ambiance, good food, good service, but probably won't go back. Better restaurants in Halifax for the money.

Amazing spot to dine in Halifax. Very romantic with live mellow music in the background. Some of the walls have the original bricks and stones, giving it a tavern-like feel. Although service was a bit slow, the food was fantastic with some of the best oysters I have ever had

My sister in law took me here for a treat. We both had The Drill (4 course meal chosen by the chef). It was so filling. We took a doggie bag and finished it the next day. Was sooooo worth it. I found it a little too romantic for us...lol There was a table stuck in a hole in the... More

Stopped in for the pre-theatre Prix Fixe package. This was an awesome way to enjoy an excellent menu offering of fine dining at a working woman's price. I have eaten at the Press Gang on the regular menu and I have always left thoroughly pleased. The theatre menu was more value and food than we could have bargained for. We... More

My husband and I were looking for a nice night out. Our favourite restaurant in Halifax that we have been eating at for 17 plus years is under renovation, so we thought we'd try the Press Gang. So disappointed. Let me be clear, it wasn't the food....that was fine, not outstanding, but what I expected. The service however, was extremely... More

There is nothing big to gripe about with this restaurant but it did not live up to expectations in terms of food. The service was friendly and as attentive as we required. The atmosphere was good, though we were seated so far out the back that it was only on departure that we were actually aware that there was live... More
