The food was good, and the fonda (open kitchen) on the ground floor where the senoras prepare the food gives a very authentic feel. But the place just isn't as clean as you'd like. “Good food, nice atmosphere in excellent location.”

Ate here on a Sunday morning along with many locals. Sat upstairs in light sunny corner. Eggs rancheros were very tasty. My husband had the Picadas Gigante - big and tasty too. Only complaint is that they didn't serve expresso coffee. It's hard to get a good expresso in some cafes despite this bring a coffee producing region.

La Fonda could not be more central in Xalapa. It's easily visible because of second floor balconies above Enriquez, the main street of the downtown area.
