At first, we were apprehensive, thinking this was a tourist trap. It wasn't. The chefs are Maya, the food is authentic, and the experience is charming. Maya ladies were making hand-made corn tortillas when we were there, the wait staff was knowledgeable and they really showed an interest in showcasing, with pride, their food. Have we had better lime soup?... More

A very good place to experiment the yucatán cuisine for a reasonable price. A good service near the center.

Located a short walk from the Teatro Peon Contreras & city square the restaurant was recommended by our guide Luis / Mayan Expeditions. We had the Panuchos and the Los Tres Mosqueteros Yucatecos...both unique & delicious local cuisine, with two very good Magaritas each, for $38.00 USD, a bargain by our California standards. The restaurant is very clean, people are... More

The food here is so good and the prices are reasonable, throw in attentive service and you really get a bang for your buck. The menu has some great vegetarian options and you are served unlimited chips, bean dip, and a variety of salsas. They are quick to replace them if you begin to run low. There are women there... This restaurant (also know as Chaya Maya) was recommended to us by our hotel, when we ask 'which restaurant would you go to if you were out for a meal'. We weren't disappointed, it was one of our favouite meals of our 2 week trip to Mexico. There are a couple of women making tortillas in the main restaurant, in... More

We were with a group of 16 people when we ate here. Everybody enjoyed their food! Its washed with good water and prepared well - so nobody got sick. I found the food to be excellent and very reasonably priced!! Probably our cheapest meal in Mexico but it was also one of the ones we enjoyed the most as well.... More

I ate twice during my 4 days staying in Merida, once for the diner and once for lunch. The cuisine is typically Yucatan with some surprising dishes. I also tried the Chaya which is the green drink made from herbs. The waiters are very nice and the service is quick and efficient. One can see ladies making tacos. Dishes price... More

La Chaya offers excellent Yucatan dishes at reasonable prices. Two woman are by the window making the tortillas to serve right away, nice and warm. Their chicken, called pollo pibil, and pork, called Poc Chuc, dishes are something to brag about. The panuchos and salbutes are very different from dishes from other parts of Mexico.

We ate here for our first night in Merida. It was decent food, we enjoyed our meal, everyone was nice and the prices were good, but I wasn't amazed. I don't want to sound negative because it was a nice meal, just not as incredible as I thought it would be after all these reviews. All in all it was... More
