La Pigua was recommended by a local and was far superior to the seafood restaurant recommended in the mainstream guidebook. The octopus salad was superb.

This is a great spot, especially for seafood salads and octopus.
They receive the catch in the pre-dawn hours, and by the time the afternoon rolls around, they are usually sold out. Whichever seafood salad you order, be aware that one salad is enough for two people. And although they are known for their coconut shrimp, I was blown away...

Very good food but no atmosphere or other diners for dinner. Probably a better lunch spot. Good service.
A friend of mine who lives in Merida told me to go to La Pigua. It was delicious! Although it is very close to hotels there were mostly people from Merida (kind of business people). A most go IMHO.
Nice clean restaurant. Excellent service. Huge coconut shrimp. But the entree is served like a shrimp cocktail with no sides, so you need to order those extra if you want. Great calamari appetizer.
I have ordered coconut shrimp many times, as we live at a beach in the USA. These were the ONLY big, fresh, delicious coconut shrimp I have ever eaten....Then, I had a green salad with shrimp. There must have been 3 dozen shrimp on top of the salad!! The best!!
Had just arrived and staying about a block away from this place - when we asked for a good restaurant we were directed here - FANTASTIC! The Sir Francis Drake - half portion and a fish special of the day was wonderful. Service and price a nice welcome to the city!
Excelent seafood very close to the hotels area and paseo de montejo. Shrimps, ceviches, fresh fish. You will enjoy it!
After reading reviews, we thought we were in for a seafood treat, but not so. Best thing we had were " blue crab tostados".... Not much crab, but lots of flavor and texture. Seafood soup was good....mostly squid, octopus and something hard to identify.....as was lobster crime soup. From there it went down hill. Margaritas were subpar. Fresh fish entrees...
