This is a very typical small lunch place with very good food & friendly staff. The price is quite reasonable for a meal with beer included if you wish. The staff could not be nicer. The ambience is basic eatery & requires going up rather uneven steps. However, it fits the ambience of Oaxaca & is good value.

a very welcoming place which does not initially present itself in an elegant way. The soup was amazing and the prices were excellent. We enjoyed ourselves very much and its location on the second floor was terrific.

There is so much delicious food in Oaxaca... But you won't be getting it here. Pasta was really average and watery. Tablecloths were dirty. Food took ages to come. Walk on by this place, go somewhere else in the area, anywhere else!

Terriable service!! The waitresses had no idea of the menu specials and they took forever to even bring menus!! No restrooms no music no good!

The food was ok but blind. The mole we had lacked flavours and spices. The black mole was only bitter, far from the intensity and deepness expected. It is a shame because the owner is really nice.

I had the best time in El Escapulario after long day trip. The chicken mole was spectacular! I love the slow atmosphere of the restaurant with no peddlers and loud music, very personal and attentive owner Esther who explained the mole recipe in details. Thank you Tripadvisor for recommendations.
