For a change from Mexican cuisine. A non-pretentious, neighborhood eatery. The soups (solyanka, borscht, etc) can't be beat: delicious, filling, nutritious. Tasty complementary rye bread. Inexpensive fried meat or dessert turnovers ("empanadas"). The hand-made pelmeni dumplings are excellent in broth or alone. Drinks: order the "kompot"...a cold, sweet, fruit-filled version of Mexican Christmas "ponche"...or try the Russian fermented rye bread...
