We had sort of saved up our appetite and cash to splurge for lunch at the outdoor patio restaurant at the Golden Era Hotel and were surprised to find that for only slightly more money than some of the other island restaurants we felt we got a lot more in terms of service, presentation and flavor.

The outside terrace here gives you an excellent view of the sunset. The sound of the waves makes it a special treat. We had lunches here and especially enjoyed out dinners. We only ate lunch there once, and it was good. Fried chicken like your mother used to make. And nice sides. Open air right on the Caribbean. No idea what the rooms are like, but it is right beside the Sea, and I gather the cheapest that you can get for that spot.
The Golden Era is in a perfect spot. From the terrace you have an oulook on the sea albeit with oil tankers on the horizon.
The menu was basic: Statia is not a culinary delight. Strangely the lunch was perfect, but diner a day later saw the exact same dish in a all new (but poorer) shape.

For dinner I had the snapper with pepper sauce. Very nice spicy season on the grilled fish. For lunch, perhaps the best crab sandwich that I have ever had. Very nice and friendly local folks made for very pleasant meals.
