We have the "privilege" of riding the Mules down to Phantom Ranch and spending the night. It is primitive. The food was good and plentiful. Enjoyed the evening Ranger talks.
Even after running for over 30 miles the lunch was pretty bad. Not sure why they don't spend more time making this nicer, but I could have saved some money by not ordering it.
After a long dusty hike, with tourists and mules, this oasis is a pleasant surprise. Nice place to camp, and you can get a burger and a shake! You can't top that.
If you're expecting the Ritz, you'll be disappointed. But you should be here in the first place. The Ranch has family-style meals, totally yummy, where you can meet fellow travelers and learn a lot. Took the mule ride and spent the afternoon and overnite at Phantom Ranch. The Ranch provides cabins for the riders as part of your trip price. The cabins have electricity, running cold water, a toilet and two sets of bunkbeds. Shower facilities are available near the cabins and are only avaliable to those with reservations. this is no more than we expected . we were disappointed in no running water or showers as promised. We were offered a refund at Briight Angel Lodge only after we had flown all the way from NC Food was good but very expensive for the quality. Staff was GREAT though.
The food was great every breakfast and dinner. The service was amazing. We loved everyone that worked there was so friendly and helpful. I can't wait to go again.

The Grand Canyon is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Views from the rim are spectacular at any time of year and in any weather. However, there is absolutely nothing like hiking into the canyon to see its rocky wonders and the majestic river that carved it.
