I usually wax lyrical when talking about food, whether I love it or hate, but can't conjure up the energy for this establishment. The staff were slow moving and lethargic, as if they had to eat every meal there and had to drag their sorry carcasses around the room in misery. We had the Chateaubriand which was overdone and cold,... More

Plastic Christmas dinner. No effort to provide Christmas decorations or spirit.

The setting is great & the food is excellent - the flavours are incredible. This is well worth the trip & we will definitely return again & again.

Maximillians is a vineyard/restaurant on a hill. Magnificent views and scrumptious fresh Adelaide food - what more could you ask for. You can also enjoy their amazing selection if wines and at the end of your dining experience you receive a complimentary toffee covered strawberry freshly picked from their garden. Their chateau briand is to die for! You will be... More

Went to Maximillians for my Mum's 50th with a couple of good family friends from interstate. Hadn't been before but it came highly recommended by Adelaide Hills' locals. Although the building is a bit more 'olde worlde' than I would be used to when going out for a fine dining experience, i was hugely impressed with both the meal and... More

My family and some friends went to Maximilian's to celebrate my birthday. Having been here before some years ago we were expecting an evening of good food, wines and service. Unfortunately apart from the wines, we were sorely disappointed. The staff were disinterested and could not prepare a simple mixed drink. The duck croquettes were nice, but the baked mushrooms... Our group of 8 adults and 2 children arrived and were greeted at the door and shown to our private room. Fire blazing. Views of vineyard from both windows. Food was delicious. (Try the escargots and the mushrooms) Service was excellent which is so important. Thanks Maximilians. I had a great lunch for my 50th.

Probably the best steak i have ever eaten. Prices were high, but quality of food and service sure made up for this. Dessert was quite dissapointing after being recommended by friends.

Went as a group of 14 with high expectations. Left feeling disappointed and as previous comment said "ripped off" . Having breakfast the following morning in a nearby town and discussing the restaurant , the cafe owner asked where we had been and was not suprised when we told him where. In his words " it used to be good".... More

Expected an enjoyable evening but experienced quite the opposite. The food was overpriced and only average. The staff was not very helpful which might be because they are young and not well trained. Atmosphere seemed promising but as there were very few diners we felt we had whisper to avoid interrupting others. Left there feeling quite ripped off.
