Tsunahachi itself has quite a few different restaurants in Shinjuku area. The main original resaturant has a long history and still maintain its old style. I tried the one on Takashimaya department store before. I arrived at around 7:00pm and waited for a moment before being led to the 2/F counter. The condition is kind of old and dated. Service... This place was hard to find. This was made more difficult by the fact that the evening we chose to find it, coincided with a 5.0 earthquake and a rain storm with wind gusts of up to 100km per hour and Tokyo suspending all above ground trains. Our umbrella (along with many others) blew away; we were drenched – soaked... More

We just went to the Shinjuku Tsunahachi after reading about it here on Tripadvisor. Although we did not expect much we were still disappointed. The food was ok, but nothing special. The same goes for the service. Nothing to complain about and nothing to praise. Overall the experience was average. If you are going expecting an unique experience with Japanese... More

I have eaten here on previous trips to Tokyo for over 20 years now and it never fails to please. If you can get a seat at the counter on the ground floor where you will enjoy the theatre of thees master tempura chefs in action. Its open seven days a week. The cheapest dish, Tempura Zen is around Y1,700... More

We went, ate upstairs; had delightful meal. Other than the champagne sized glass of green goop, everything was quite nice and familiar. The chefs nicely held up their work as they went. Highly recommended More

This is a must visit place. Authentic tempura in the right 'local' ambience. The sesame oil and wasabi salt make all the difference. Just off Yakasuni dori, though a bit difficult to find. More

The bets description was "next to Segafredo cofee" and the photo of the entrance at this address http://www.bento.com/rev/0654.html really helped to find the restaurant. Went Sunday 7.30 waited for only about 15 minutes. Esay to chose from the illustrated tourist menu. Opted for one of the set menus (was so hungry so for the largest one). Atmosphere is really cosy... Very hard to find, so when I left I looked for the easiest reference to give as advice in this review's title. No big signs showing the name of the restaurant in english. As said delicious tempura restaurant, full with locals. Expect to wait, but worth it. Although facade and inside all signs in Japanese and only some personel with... More
