  "Getting to Takalana was an adventure in itself. Takalana is in a remote part of Viti Levu and the last 15 or so kilometers is on a gravel road (I am glad we hired a 4x4) It took us 2hrs and 10mins from the Novotel Suva but we did not rush and stopped along the way. Nestled into the side of a smal..."l hill - the thing that hit us as we got out of our vehicle and was the expansive views out to Ovalau, Motuniki and Naigai Islands you can even see Vanua Levu Island. Right out in front of the Resort on the water was a pale blue shadow that our eyes were continuously drawn to - Moon Reef.   "Our family aren't 5-star resort types. We look for places where there's either no-one else... or hardly anyone else. Takalana is tiny (2 bures right now, another 2 open soon), family oriented, lovely people, lovely food. For my kids (10, 12, 17) the highlight was the boat-trip out to the dolphin..."s - for me it was a 40 minute walk / horse-ride up to swim in a beautiful cool waterfall in the forest, and wandering around the local village (which has 5 different denominations of Church - almost as many Churches as houses). Also loved a lazy afternoon kayaking through the freaky Lord Of The Rings-esque mangrove swamps. Look out for the nasty looking tree crabs by the thousands on every mangrove tree. My weird fish-only diet was very well looked-after - every evening we'd see the old ladies wandering out waist-deep in the water on sunset to catch us little 4 inch long fishes that would end up on our plates with delicious fried rice an hour or so later.
