  "We stayed here in January. The cabins had nice heavy blankets. It was very close to the volcano, so we were able to get up early and see the volcano before the sunrise. The cabins were clean and quiet."

We swore that we read that they had a cafe and were sad to find that the "cafe" was just a little room off the gift shop with overpriced pre-packaged sandwiches, bottled sodas, coffee, etc. We were starving because we'd been hiking all day, we were ready to put away some pounds. But...it staved off the angry hunger that was quickly putting a damper on the evening. The gift shop has a variety of stuff for purchase...wooden postcards, national park passport stickers, jewelry, park ranger outfits (sadly none in my adult size which, by the way, I find unfair), tshirts, etc. ...   "We stayed at the Volcano House for one night whilst we explored the various craters in the area. The hotel was a good way through a thorough refurbishment so there was sadly no bar or restaurant available and some of the rooms were not finished. We stayed in a crater view room and the name is entir..."ely appropriate. The view is astonishing, especially when the sun goes down and the volcano lights up the sky (see photograph from our room). The room was nicely furnished and looked very much like a small safari lodge. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the bathroom was small but perfectly kitted out. The room rate was heavily discounted as the refurbishment was still in progress so I think we got a great deal. The bar and restaurant will be great to visit once they are finished as they have amazing views over the crater. Staff were friendly and we were more than happy with the restaurant in Volcano that we were recommended and was booked for us. The hotel is small and I'm sure will ... " More >
