My spouse and I stayed at the Cal Sastre Hotel for three nights in April. For two of those nights, we were the only guests. A "pilgrim" joined us for the third night. We planned the stay to go walking in the Volcano Zone, but April and early May are very slow. The management tried their hardest to be good... More

We stayed at Cal Sastre at the end of April and clearly it was pre-season. We were the only guests in the hotel and there was no one at the front desk (or anywhere else in the hotel) except to serve us breakfast and check us out. Shortly after we checked in, we wanted to move rooms because the bed... More

Slightly quirky hotel but very comfortable rooms. Some with stunning view. Nice garden. Very clean and well and interestingly furnished. (Not a Holiday Inn). Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely location in old medieval town. Can be difficult to find as Santa Pau is a one way circuit off main road. Some lovely walks round the local volcanoes - all... More

Lovely and charming hotel with excellent staff, courteous and friendly. Non-English speaking. Really helpful with suggested walks. Beautiful village, and good to stay there after the day-trippers have gone. Great food in the Cal Sastre restaurant just a short walk from the hotel. Good breakfast in the hotel itself, really setting you up for a day's hiking. One caveat -... More

My husband and I spent two nights at this small hotel located in an atmospheric medieval town. It is located just minutes from the town’s historic center. Our accommodation was a wonderful smallish, but attractive corner room with windows on one side and a private, covered terrace on the other (# 5). Both nights we had excellent dinners at Restaurant... More

I was surprised at the negative reviews from Spanish guests, and can only assume things have improved over the last couple of years. The hotel was pre-booked by a travel company as part of a walking tour, and of the various hotels we stayed at in the area (including some more upmarket ones) this was probably our favourite. The situation,... More

Santa Pau is a very pretty, small medieval village in the volcanic zone (extinct!) of the Garrotxa region of Catalonia, about an hour's drive from Girona. The hotel Cal Sastre forms part of the old defensive walls. It is beautifully situated in that you are a few minutes walk from the centre, but can enjoy the lovely hotel gardens, a... More
