The two best parts of this secluded lodge were the glow worms on the driveway and the after-surfing-sauna. The rooms were kind of small for a dorm, everyone's stuff all on top of each other, and it's pretty much impossible to get back to the lodge from town in the evenings. Taxis are non-existent in Ragland, and the lodge doesn't... More

A few weeks ago my husband and I found Karioi Lodge on Tripadvisor and went there to ask about booking a room. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We wanted time alone and asked about private self-catering accomodation. They gave us suggestions (no pressure) on what was available at Karioi Lodge and also some houses from their "Sleeping Lady... Stayed for 3 nights in a 4 bed dorm. Was quite small and dark but ok. The bathroom facilities were ok but meant you had to walk outside to get to it, not a problem till it rains. Kitchen was a good size and the communal area was big. Used the surf school which was great fun, every day someone... More

We were also pleasantly surprised to find the lodge offering a number of amenities one would not normally expect of a hostel type accommodation. Free Pool Table and... More

Really liked the vibe at this hostel-communal cooking/dining/chill out areas, with internet access, DVDs, ping pong and table football. These are located close to the dorms, but dorms were still quiet and we got a great night's sleep. Also has some cool walks you can do in the bush, a rope course and the fun Flying Fox zip wire. Rooms... More

Karioi Lodge is a Backpackers Hostel located on Raglan Surf Beach, which is about 10km out from the town of Raglan. The location of the hostel is truly amazing - the native environment it is settled in is glorious and the surf breaks of Whale & Manu Bays are right across the road. The main beach Ngarunui is about a... More
