This B & B is a great place to stay and base yourself to see the area. Gilly and John were great hosts and extremely helpful with any questions you may have. The rooms are very clean and well decored. Gilly and John have taken a great deal of care and time to furnish their B & B and it... More

Booked here to be near to Chatsworth and Haddon Hall, which are both nearby. The home is first-class and modern inside in every way. The breakfast room is down a spiral staircase, and overlooks the beautiful garden - a step back in time to luxurious service and surroundings. Some may not like the fact that River Cottage is right on... More

We stayed here for two nights.Wish it had been longer. The accomodation and breakfast can only be described as first class.Everthing had been thought of and it was a handy place to many of the Peak District's attractions. We ate at local pubs and really enjoyed our time. The on suite facilities in our room were quite amazing. What a great bathroom. The garden is... Anyone looking for quintessential British charm must come to River Cottage. The house and grounds are immaculate! I would love to be there in summer to sit by the beautiful river for hours just to relax. The hosts, John and Gilly were delightful! My wife and I stayed at River Cottage for three nights the end of March, and found... More

We stayed for 3 nights in March. Beautiful rooms with antique French beds. Our hosts Gilly and John were very welcoming. The cottage sits next to the river on the edge of pretty Ashford in the Water. We did a nice round walk straight from the cottage up to Monsal Head and back. Breakfasts were wonderful using locally sourced produce.... More

A three night midweek break at a luxury b&b which, for once, lived up to billing. Location excellent. Room exceptionally clean, well equipped and comfortable. Hosts very welcoming and attention to detail first class - e.g. torch in room to ensure safe negotiation of final hundred yard or so of walk along road on way back from village. Recommendations on... Just back from a 3 night stay at River Cottage and what a great choice we made. From the moment we arrived Gilly & John made us feel so welcome and were always on hand with good advice about where to eat or visit. We were shown to our room which was immaculately clean and beautifully furnished, the en suite... More

Gilly and John are lovely, caring hosts who have put a lot of time and effort into this cottage. Bought as a wreck and renovated by themselves, including a new extension, the cottage sits beside the River Wey with the small but very lovely garden providing river side seating. We found the rooms to be spotlessly clean, and most en... More

Have stayed at River Cottage twice, once for fun and once when I had business in the area. I cannot fault it. Lovely rooms, great breakfast and lots of little extras that show that real care has gone into the selection of toiletries, bedding etc. John and Gilly are lovely people who go out of their way to make you...
