Returned to La Chaine d'Or after several years, remembering that we liked it but it was beginning to get shabby. Wow! Gorgeously refurbished - we had the Richard Lionheart junior suite and loved it. Excellent price fixed 4 course dinner in lovely restaurant overlooking the Seine. Highly recommended. Short drive to Giverny(go early) and Richard's Chateau Gailliard overlooking a bend... More

We arrived here very tired after driving from Paris, being from Australia and having to drive on the wrong side of the road made it more challenging so what a sight for sore eyes this lovely hotel was. Right in the centre of town & across the cobbled street was the magnificent Saint Sauveur Church. No lift here, but we... More

We arrived from a overseas flight from Canada, and after visiting Giverney and Roche de Gyon, arrived at our first stop La Chaine d'Or for 2 nights. As we were arriving before 5:00pm we made all the accessible arrangements and were in the courtyard parking lot by 3:30. A restaurant recommendation -The Mistral across the street and down, and it... We spent one night after Giverny on our way to Normandy. We lucked out with a beautiful sunny afternoon to sit by the river and relax. Very small quaint town. Our room was very comfortable and looked out over the courtyard to the river. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was one of the better meals we had... More

Quirky, old fashioned hotel in very pretty Normandy village. Sited right next to the Loire river and in the shadow of the magnificent Chateau Gailliard, the castle built by Richard the Lionheart. Very friendly, helpful staff, and lovely restaurant overlooking the river with excellent food. Very good values.

Very good hotel, clean, tidy, with a wow factor if you like typical 19th century french house, with apparent bins. Cosy, staff extremely helpful. I would chose it over a standard Hilton! You can have a meal on site or go out, the main street nearby has a couple of restaurants and creperies. All good!

We stayed here our first night after arriving in Paris. Our plan was to spend the night near Giverny and from there begin our vacation in Normandy. Unfortunately, after delayed flights, we arrived too late for dinner. Our large room looked out on the Seine, which we requested, and after a great night's sleep we started the next day with... More

First to the previous reviouers. Keep in mind ,you are in France ,not in USA, nor in UK. This is very normal behaviour in France. They respect their guests but also ,and maybe more, respect themselves, their language, their food habits, and breaks . Kitchen is closed out of meals time, is very strict all over France. The hotel is... More

We stayed here beginning of September. Like the previous reviewer we found our welcome lacking. We arrived after a long journey from UK around 6pm. We were shown to our room which overlooked I don't know what. Small outdoor space? We were not offered any form of refreshment nor was there any complimentary water etc., provided in the room. We... This emporium is horrendously difficult to rate. All i can do is give a view as we found it and not what other people may enjoy! As we arrived at 1.30pm the first greeting we got was your room is not available until 3.00pm, not the friendly welcome we were hoping for, i then asked where we could get a... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
La Chaîne d’Or gets her name from the history of the 18 th century, when the house was considered as a toll house. A large chain was crossing the Seine river between the rives and the island. Each boat that wanted to cross the river from La Havre to Paris had to pay a toll. The king was getting so much money from this toll, that people were telling that it was a “golden chain”. La Chaine d’Or has been successively an auberge, an hotel, and a coffee shop, just in front of the church, where men were meeting while their wifes were in the church. After world war 2nd, the Boirel family proposed a traditionnal cuisine, which was very appreciated from the local guests. Monsieur Boutineau went on with this tradition. Several years later, Monsieur et Madame Foucault, as new owners, decided to propose a gastronomic restaurant and with the help of the Chef, Monsieur Chevalliez, they obtained a Star from the famous Michelin Guide. When the chef left to buy his own restaurant, Madame Foucault sold la Chaîne d’Or which had a difficult time for a while.Today, Stephanie and Olivier Bicot, their team and the Chef Philippe Lallier are very proud to welcome you and to share their passion for the French gastronomy. ... more   less
