Stayed here over the Easter 2012 weekend with a group of people for a wedding, in the lodge part of the hostel. Comfortable double rooms, nicely decorated, warm (duvets a bit too warm), with separate bathrooms (decent power showers). Good kitchen with everything you need, lovely living room with huge windows and lovely views. Breakfasts were available from the friendly... More

I have been taking school studnets to Dunard Hostel for 2 years and have had excellent service, clean hospitable and comfortable stays. We have used the experet services of Clearwater paddling for sea kayak experiences and have been impressed at the personal service, consideration to the needs of the students, value for money and positive hospitality. I find the negative... More

This fantastic, family-run hostel is the perfect place to stay and my family had the best holiday ever here. The rooms are clean, the kitchen is well-equipped and the lounge is a brilliantly cosy place to read and play games. We received a warm greeting on our arrival, and had an awesome time when we joined Chris for a kayaking... More

I loved this hostel, it has a nice homey atmosphere with a colourful & comfy communal area.. log fire included. The kitchen is well equipped and spotless, the bunk rooms are not crammed with too many beds and the situation is brilliant although when the wind blows from the south you'll know about it ;-) The owners are not always... This hostel should be closed down . First sight a broken glass in front door stuffed with polythene bag. Inside standards of cleanliness very poor, welcome non existent , showers a health hazard,When the front door was closed the locks were damaged and it could not be opened , we had to call to a passer bye to push from... We are small family run hostel and we do our best to make the wee hostel as welcoming and friendly as possible. We are 3* Visit Scotland classified. Of the hundreds of visitors we get each year almost all leave happily and many fill our visitor book with positive feedback. We have numerous comments saying this is one of the... More

We stayed at Dunard Hostel as part of a family camping trip to the Outer Hebrides. We were used to roughing it and believe me, I wasn't expecting the Hilton but what we got was disappointing by the standards of other hostels we have stayed in. There was nobody around when we arrived in the afternoon so it was nice... More

Positives - great location, pub/supermarket/cafe nearby, peaceful cabin, sea kayaking option. Negatives - cabin is a away from facilities - more of an issue at night/bad weather. No bike shelter. 2 bathrooms which could get busy. We stayed here 2 nights as part of a longer cycle holiday. My thoughts are more in line with the majority on here. No... More

We arrived having booked 3 nights in a family room. I have stayed in hostels before and never had any problems. The room was very small but this was not too much of a problem. However, the bed linen did not appear to have been washed since the last occupants and there were signs on the walls instructing you "must"... More

We stayed at the Dunard Hostel, Castlebay, Barra, from the 8th to the 10th July 2011. My party consisted of two adults and two children. This was our first experience of staying in an independent hostel (in Scotland). There are positive aspects to this place, which I will address, however it did not have a homely feel to it as...
