We were a party of four plus dog and booked Aros Cottage in Barra for 3 night’s B&B as the start of a Hebridean tour to Lewis via South and North Uist. Arriving on the evening of 18th August we were given a very warm welcome by the owner, Mrs MacPherson and immediately were made to feel at home. She... More

I travelled with my husband for business in July to Barra. The B&B is clean and very tidy, comfy beds and nice hot showers. Mrs MacPherson knows a great deal about her local area and was very helpful to us, helped us with the local bus service, where to eat at nights, what would be open on a Sunday, welcoming... More

Mrs. Macpherson runs a tight ship.  We had a double room; the bed was comfortable, the shower had consistently hot water and the toilet was down the hall.  Our breakfast was cooked to order and there was a hotel one mile from the B&B that we walked to for our evening meal.  Overall, it was an acceptable stay on an... We travelled north to visit the Outer Hebrides and were told of Aros Cottage by friends who have a holiday cottage on the island. We received so much information and local knowledge from our landlady who was so positive about the island and other islands - Mingulay and Pabay. We learned of the heritage - given a steer to visit... More

We arrived off the Eriskay Ferry after a trip down the Western Isles from Lewis and was greeted with a very warm welcome from the owner who was very cheerful despite the terrible weather. The lady was really hospitable - assisted with drying our wet jackets and gave us lots of information about the island including a walking map and... More

This isn't the sort of place where you get a warm welcome. On arriving we were ordered to remove our boots (fair enough, they were a but grubby), but this order (and it was more like an order than a request) was followed with a rant about cleanliness, and a demand that we didn't make the towels dirty, as other... After a wonderful week of self-catering on Barra we booked a single night in Aros Cottage bed and breakfast. We were greeted by clouds of midges surrounding the house. One of the great things about Barra is that there are few trees and therefore practically no midges. Aros Cottage is surrounded by scrubby trees and shrubbery and is clearly a... More
