We stayed here for two nights in September - everything is first class and I'd return again in a heartbeat. The common areas are tastefully decorated with antiques, paintings and objets d'art. The rooms run the gamut from huge to smallish but all are individually appointed. As others have mentioned, the grounds are remarkable, peaceful and inviting. There's even a... More

Beautiful setting in Sauveterre just a short distance outside of Avignon. The rooms are very large and beautifully appointed. The service at this chateau was excellent. We were there with a group and able to use the large gourmet kitchen with a chef for a cooking lesson. The pool is fantastic.

Gorgeous garden and and authentic decor. Owner and staff were extremely nice and helpful. Room de Varenne was spectacular. Antiques and old world decor was amazing. You would feel like you were some old French royalty. Absolutely positively a wonderful stay. Not far from Avignon, so it is a great option for those who are visiting Avignon. Much better than... This is one château that has an air of mischief when you enter it. The discreet presence of children, evidenced by toys here and there, makes this place jovial from the onset. The lobby features nods to modernity in its choice of art, i.e. the current display of a classic gown with protruding pins-a sort of fashion cactus! The grounds... More

The chateau is lovely and decorated nicely. The grounds are serene, and highlighted by a wonderful, large old tree which we were able to appreciate from our bedroom window. It is a family home, and as such has a family feel rather than a stuffy atmosphere. Yes, there are a few things that could be done in terms of maintenance,... More

Located in a small village just outside of Avignon (a car is a must as the property is somewhat isolated in the countryside), the Chateaux was a treat for our two young daughters who felt that they were princesses. The building is rather old, but well maintained by the owners (every day we returned to our spotlessly clean room). Our... More

Friendly welcome, nice mansion where the owners live as well. Nice grounds but could be better taken care of. Has a small pool which was not appealing at all. Lobby, sitting rooms and bedrooms are nicely decorated ,it was like to travel in time. Owners are friendly and nice whom we have seen during check- in , check-out and while serving... More

Our stay here was a sort of summary of all the other previous reviews combined - exceedingly good and pretty poor in equal measure! At the kind of price charged, one would expect excellence, and indeed, there are truly lovely features to the hotel. It looks fantastic, to start with: though the grounds are small, it has all the appropriate... More

The property is quite stunning and located near Chateauneuf du Pape. Sauveterre is a small village with little other than a boulangeire, a bar and a very ordinary Italian restaurant. The property is part of the Chateaux and Hotels Collection and promised a lot (on that site and the propertiy's own site). The rooms are nicely presented (at least the... More

Do go to Chateau de Varenne! It is a beautiful little Chateau in Sauveterre which is a small village just outside Avignon. We took the train to Avignon from Ebbsfleet, which took just over 5 hours. It was fantastic.. we stopped in Paris for an hour and got lost on the Metro and then on to Provence! We hired a... More
