We spent 3 nights at Kaya Mawa as the last part of a 2 week safari trip. Our intent was to save the relaxing part for the end and it definitely exceeded all our expectations. We had a very very relaxing and comfortable stay here, surrounded by the natural beauty and amazing/accomodating staff. We stayed in the Makengulu which was... More

We chose Malawi as I had grown up there in the 80's and it was my first visit back. We cannot speak highly enough of the accommodation, staff, views, food - it was all truly amazing. Michelle, Rich, Josh and Becky were all so welcoming and helpful. The Madimba House is truly special - unbeatable views across the lake and... More

A visit to Likoma island is an absolute treasure for travellers who enjoy feeling the naturalness of Africa but like some home comforts and can afford them. It is a very romantic retreat for couples offering barefoot chic rooms and a healthy balance of tranquility and lots of active splashy fun in the alluring lake. It is also suitable for... More

My wife and I spent our ten year anniversary at Kaya Mawa. We are based in Lilongwe and searched for the nicest place in the country for our celebration. We debated spending the money on the trip, but it was worth every penny. We opted for a premium room that had 180 degree views of the lake, a private plunge... More

Flying in we wondered if the lodge could live up to the lovely brochure photos, but on arrival it certainly did, and then some. We had a wonderful couple of days there, fully relaxed and being looked after by the attentive but not overbearing staff. Our room was spacious, simply but comfortably furnished and beautifully positioned overlooking the small island... More

From the moment we arrived in Kaya Mawa until we left, we felt part of the family. Traveling with a 7 month and 6 year old always present some challenges, but this time all things were in place and for a change mommy could also relax. The attention to detail by the management couple was great. An excellent babysitter was... More

If you want a great big resort with scheduled activities, cookie cutter rooms and sterile surroundings, please don't go to Kaya Mawa. You'll only be disappointed (shame about Bob). On the other hand, if you want barefoot luxury, privacy, fantastic food, a willing and able staff, loads of self-directed activities and almost inconceivable views, Kaya Mawa should be at the... We were not sure what to expect from this holiday but were surprised and elated with what we did find. Kaya Mawa is a secluded resort on a small island in lake Malawi. The service was personal, friendly and very helpful. We stayed in one of the premier rooms- Nkwazi (think I spelt that correctly). The room is situated with... More

It is hard to know where to begin when describing this triumph of a hotel. The achievement alone of getting the fabric of the buildings, the first class staff, the ingredients, equipment and room finishings to this singularly remote location staggers the imagination. The setting in itself is breathtaking and the service faultless. What a welcome from Michelle - personalised... More

We recently spent 6 nights at Kaya Mawa. It is a beautiful setting and all the accommodation has tremendous character. Everything is done to an extremely high standard – with tremendous attention to detail. Service is excellent, while still being relaxed and fairly informal. Breakfast and lunch are in the restaurant next to the beach, and in the evening tables... More
