La Licorne, together with Le Grand Cerf, is a stylish little hotel in the picturesque village of Lyons-La-Foret. Note, howver, that the place is in the middle of nowhere, with motorways far away and it takes quite a while to get there, even 50 minutes from "nearby" Rouen. The hotel is lovely, staff were very helpful and the Spa is... More

Decorator room with bathtub in room is decorator kitsch and really not practical. No way to bath without leaving room quite wet and humid. New decoration forgot hall and stairways so you feel like a two-character hotel. Even though we had reserved well in advance and asked for table in main restaurant, there was none left and we had to... More

We had booked this hotel as it had a diasbled access room. It was more like a dungeon. Dark grey walls, small, high, barred windows, which were impossible for a wheelchair user to open. The thick gravel would make it impossible for any wheelchair user to access other parts of the hotel independently. The mirror above the basin was too... More

We stayed for one night at the Grand Cerf part of the Licorne hotel (although formally set up as separate hotels, the Grand Cerf which is the slightly cheaper wing is really part of the same hotel and effectively an annex as it has no separate reception). The rooms were comfortably furnished albeit slightly small and with very thin walls.... More

We stayed here in the summer of 2011 and thought we'd stay here again over New Year on our way back home to UK from Disney. In the summer we had liked the location of the hotel, the restaurant, and the room. We were served breakfast by a very rude young blonde lady in the summer and complained when we... More

We stayed at La Licorne on for one night on our way from Calais to the middle of France. We were travelling with two adults and two children aged 6 and 3. The hotel is quirky and the location is stunning. The staff spoke next to no English, but that was fine. Our room was absolutely perfect for our family.... More

We stayed here for two nights in early August as we wanted to visit Giverny. We had one of the larger rooms at the front of the hotel - very spacious with sitting area and open plan bathroom - and views over the village square. The room and the whole hotel is decorated tastefully and in an understated way, using... More

Room was only just big enough to get a bed in, and the shower had mould growing in it. Paid 130E for meal for 2 - completly over priced for at best average quality - was over charged into the bargain. To cap it all - booked via the web but they would not nonour the price - said it... More

We drove all the way from Dinan to Lyons-la-Foret. A long drive, and we had no reservations. We tried the local B&B, and they were full. So a short walk along the main street took us to this delightful and elegant boutique hotel. With a 1920/30s car in the entrance and and a lovely garden for having an early evening... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hotel La Licorne, whose construction date back to 1610, has twenty delightful rooms around his sculptural staircase. Its complete renovation was undertaken in 2007 with the famous house decoration Flamant, the rooms being redone enjoying harmoniously combined with contemporary charm the historical aspect. A suite for the disabled has also been designed. Much attention has been paid to the well being of guests - a holiday in the Licorne is a source of tranquility and comfort. La Licorne is also equipped with four comfortable suites. All rooms have a view either charming historic Lyons Hall or on the patio of the hotel, and always in the background forest. Christophe Poirier, talented young chef, went through the most prestigious restaurants. It is a culinary soul he has instilled in these places, and professionals do not make a mistake in awarding him the quality of young talent Gault et Millau 2009. ... more   less
