Expensive but lives up to the expectations. Warm but unpretentious service, personalized to your needs in a spectacular location. Great wine list and lots to do in the area. Would return. While hot breakfasts are available, they could consider offering a bit more than cereals and breads as part of the buffet breakfast. The place It is still pretty wonderful... More

Wow....is all you can say at every turn in Wharekauhau. Nico and Kristy are the best hosts and made us feel so welcome. It was truly like we were in their own home. Nothing was too much trouble which made us really feel like we were on vacation. The drive to Wharekauhau is LONG so be ready for it. But... More

I think I'll remember wharekauhau forever. Everything was jaw droppingly amazing. Kristie and Nico make you feel like part of the family. The views are stunning. The food was better than any I've had before, with great local wine to match. The stars were so close you could almost touch them. A working farm, you have to take a tour.... More

We re-visited the wonderful Wharekauhau Country Estate this week, and were not disappointed. It's been about three years since our last stay, and in that time new rooms have been built, and many changes made in the big 'house', including a great recreation room. Only two minor criticisms / suggestions: I really miss having a full length mirror in the... More

Dear Travellerholic, Thank you for your review and recent stay at Wharekauhau Country Estate. I appreciate your comment in regards to the mirror on the dressing door, as I too have the same fears! The mirrors for the doors should be in place shortly in all three new rooms. As for the milk in the fridge, my apologies for the... More

I spent three days here with my husband and daughter following her graduation. From my initial contact with the resort until the moment we departed the service was exemplary. One look at the website will show you how superb the location is; but the fantastic location is matched by warm professional service where your every need is anticipated. I would... More

Kristy and Nico deLange, and the entire staff, do everything possible to make your stay as comfortable as can be. It's like their house is your house. Completely five star luxury, but unpretentious and comfortable. I highly recommend this property.

We spent three days around Christmas 2009 (period was unfortunately not available in the "Date of stay"-menu at tripadvisor.com) at Whare Kauhau and were absolutely blown away by the entire experience. The Lodge's setting in Pallisser bay is perfect, with on one side a view over the beautiful ocean with its ever changing colours and on the other side luscious... More
