The hotel is very nice, the rooms are very big, the hotel staff was very nice to us. We didn't eat there but i bet that the food is also as nice. It has an outdoor pool which is clean but there were a lot of wasps flying next to the edges of the pool. It has a free wifi, slow but at least it works like a charm.

It was a nice hotel in the country side, clean air and beautiful nature. People were very friendly and helpful (took us to the railstation for a much cheaper price than a taxi). Rooms were clean and there was no noise during nights, Generally quiet the whole day. There was a swimming pool at the backside which looked very beautiful. The dinner in the hotel restaurant was delicious and the service was good too.
I think it would be a good choise if you want some time to relax, with friends or with family.

We have been given a voucher for a stay at this place for our wedding. First problem started when we wanted to book a room with the voucher. Some Francesca wrote that the hotel's rooms assigned to the voucher are full until October and if we wanted to come, we would have to pay extra 50 € a day for a suite accommodation. After my pointing out that the hotel offers accommodation for five days for about 350€ and we have already paid for the voucher she ceased to respond to my mails altogether. With help of a traveling agency through which the voucher was bought we agreed to pay the extra 50€ a day and agreed on the time if our stay. Here comes the fun part. When we arrived the hotel was completely EMPTY, except for a very surprised receptionist and four construction workers working ON the hotel. We learned that the hotel offers 32 basic rooms and 8 suites - we were given room accommodation (which was supposed to be full until October). The place looked like it was not in operation yet, there were no other guests, restaurant seemed closed, minibar was empty, the grounds around would definitely use a gardener, the pool was occupied by literally hundreds of bees. There were workers at the pool unpacking chairs and umbrellas (in August!). There was no balcony in the room, and the view from the window was blocked by a large turning concrete block (seriously, the architect if this place should be banned from his activities for lifetime), so the room was very dark. Also, the location of this hotel is terrible, there is absolutely nothing around it (not to mention that the hotel's only available activity is the pool - they had two pools, actually, but the other one was covered by a wooden block). We didn't want to hurt the feelings of my brother in law who gave us the voucher for this place but we couldn't stay there. We booked another hotel in radda in chianti and moved there. AVOID THIS HOTEL, we literally RAN from there

Why this place exists at all is a mystery. I was there as part of a wine conference which in itself was a bit chaotically organised. My overriding impression was that someone with a reasonable amount of money bought an old tobacco farm in rural Tuscany and started to spend. Then spent a bit more….. and then just as it was nearly ready to open they ran out of money but opened it anyway. The result is predictable. One of the things money was spent on is a bizarre system whereby your room has no window to the outside instead a huge slab of wall is cantilevered out from the main structure by means of an electric motor operated from a switch inside the room . Like most things here the motor/switch may or may not work, if it doesn’t - bad luck. Surreal.
What else? We arrived at night and fellow guests jumped in the swimming pool only to see next morning that it was full of green algae (silly in November I know….). My toilet seat collapsed on its first encounter and had obviously been broken before but not replaced and it wasn’t any better when I left even though left it dismantled for the cleaner to see. No water one morning - fixed but probably a recurring thing. On check-in the receptionist had to conjure some elaborate paper trick in the room light switch because no room cards were available – all my fellow guests had similar feats of origami to contend with. Coffee at breakfast was in short supply. The bar (?) was never open. The outside areas were half finished- weeds everywhere. It just seemed uncared for and unfinished.
Strangely if you check this place out on line there is no mention of an hotel at all although they clearly have at least 32 rooms. They do have apartments which are in another part of the (last!) resort. A ghost hotel? – maybe this stay never happened?? On checking out the receptionist/manager was offended that I had not indulged in the minibar (5 bottles total) because he had hoped to make some money out of me (his words).
Good points? Thin on the ground but it had to be said that most of the staff were eager to please and hardworking and the food was ok. I guess the current owners will give up and someone else will come in and pump more money in and get this strange place on its feet someday (don’t what they would do about the bedroom "windows" tho') but until they do - stay away.

Worst hotel experience in all our worldwide travels. Customer service is a joke. It doesn’t exist. If you want irate front desk staff that patronize you and argue with you this is your place! Overcharged us as well. They would rather get 16 euro extra than have happy satisfied customers. They put the blame on booking.com and forced us to pay the extra 16 euro. They can’t accept responsibility for anything.
The water goes from scalding to lukewarm repeatedly every 30 seconds.
The windows are covered by automatic thick concrete swiveling panels and feel like a prison cell.
Even their mini fridges in their room have signs that say if you put anything else in there they will charge you 3 Euro. This hotel is desperate and was practically empty.
The restaurant staff was hacking and coughing terribly as she made our coffees in the morning. Don’t take your chances and look elsewhere.

Response from Francesca P, Direttore at Hotel Antica Tabaccaia
Responded 9 Oct 2017
"Since, as always, customer judgment is indisputable where it is the expression of a true experience, honestly described, in this particular case it is for us to make it known that this client clearly threatened the structure of proceeding with a very negative comment where we had pursued the intention to charge the second person, his guest, where the reservation was clearly for one person. The comment of the client obviously omits this small detail and instead amplifies that he had to pay 16 € in addition to non-existent reasons as well as say a lot of other things VERY controversial. We believe, however, that it is crucial to emphasize and to make it clear that small details show the bad faith of the writer. Since we have certainly received a single person reservation and we have the evidence, well, according to you, the second person did not have to pay it just because the customer threatened to make a bad comment? Customers who move with these intentions / convictions, to mislead the advertising tools of their own experiences to some end, instead of favoring other potential users, are opposed to the good of all. Congratulations Erick Q, fine work. Complimenti Erick Q, bel lavoro.”

I had a very disturbing time at this place. They had changed my room and moved my stuff without telling me. Some of my stuff was missing during this relocation. I am trying to take a legal action against them. Wifi connection and the service was also terrible.

Hotel workers were so arrogant and uneducated, never even smiled, breakfast was so bad, no even butter or corn flakes bowl, they never changed towel during the house keeping inspection. Receptionist was shouting because we wanted to get a cup of coffee before breakfast time, she said don’t enter breakfast room before 7:30 am, I said I just wanted to get a cup of coffee. They don’t have double bed, all beds are twin beds. Good thing is hotel located in natural area. Last words; DONT EVER NEVER THINK TO COME HERE!!!

You were guest with us as tour leader for a group that did not speak English but only Turkish. Poor guests she accompanied.. She never lent them any support of any kind leaving them totally on their own. Finally, despite having warned her that breakfast started at 07:30 and that there was another group in the previous time slot, she disrespectfully sneaked in despite our receptionist having reiterated this several times. We are the ones who complained to your agency because you are absolutely not able to manage a group

The place is literally in the middle of nowhere. They lock up the pool at 19:30 already, and you can not swim before breakfast ends after 9:30. So from the whole feel, you don´t feel welcome there. The breakfast itself is not worth being mentioned, so don´t expect too much. The rooms are clean and there´s free parking. Also the internet broke in the evening, and couldn´t be put back working until check-out time. So I wouldn´t stay there again. Also the walls are thin, as I heard the neighbors TV...

I left the Antica Tabaccaia yesterday morning and really wish I was still there. This hotel was not the hotel that we were supposed to use on our tour, the original one went into receivership, and the AT stepped into the breach, sometimes it was chaos, mostly it was delightful.
The surroundings are delightful, glorious countryside dotted with little villages, only one is really easy walking distance and it has few if any amenities so without a car you would struggle. But legs are amazing things and the walking is lovely.
The rooms are spacious and immaculately clean. The windows are amazing. This old tobacco factory maintains its huge shutters that were used to regulate the airflow over the drying tobacco, they are electronic, you don't need biceps of steel! Huge double showers were a delight, which one should I use this morning?
Pool was excellent, splendid after a long days walk or trailing around a spectacular Tuscan city.
The quality of the food was good, on the whole. To be honest, the superb and delightful staff in the restaurant more than made up for any problems we had. We were a large group and to please everyone would have been impossible given the obviously stratospheric expectations of some of our party. I loved it and would happily go back. Joshi is a complete delight and even the solemn and efficient Vincenzo will smile eventually. The young desk staff were adorable and extremely helpful.
No this isn't the uber efficient slick hotel some are used to but it is full of character and charm. It is also worth remembering that the hotel grading system is different in every country, this is an Italian four star, not a British AA four star, they grade differently.
I would go back tomorrow, but demand a slightly better breakfast.
