We stayed at the monastery in August 2009, a family of 5 with 2 young boys and a teenage girl. From then until now our thoughts have wandered back to wonderful days and evenings we spent at the Monastery. Chatting with Carmen, wonderful Maria and listening to her beautiful daughter play guitar for us on the terrace. Make no mistake,... More

After Posada S.Jose,Cuenca we wanted something similarly enthralling - that would also allow my dog (of course). My friend found La Cartuja. It is enthralling and quirky at the same time but this suited us both. Carmen was most welcoming and we had a lovely meal with wine, on the terrace overlooking the valley. The route to the Cartuja is... More

A beautiful location hidden away in the hills with the most spectacular views and all credit to Carmen for her energy and vision in restoring the monastery to some of its past glory. Our kids enjoyed having the run of a place that could easily double as a Harry Potter film set; however, the task of running this as a... More

We arrived at this wonderful place to be meet by the most unfriendly 'Carmen' and shown to our rooms which were smelly and dirty. The common-area was the same. After discussion with my husband we decided that this was not the place for us, we were happy to forfeit our 50 euro deposit and look elsewhere. A week later we... More

If you're close to this part of the countryside north of Seville, then you really should visit and spend a night. The story of how Carmen Ladrón de Guevara Bracho acquired and restored a remote Carthusian monastery is fascinating and the grounds are as stunning as the buildings. We stayed in one of the suites on a chilly night in... More

We stayed for two nights at La Cartuja jusgt a couple of weeks ago. We arrived at 2.00 pm to be told that it was too late for lunch, which we found a bit odd as lunch in Spain normally begins around that time. The main part of the monastery which has been renovated is a real testament to the... More

I agree with the other reviewers. A great place for peace and quiet. There's a permanent art exhibition and the occasional concert. One can only express admiration for the achievements of the owner who has restored this old monastery over the last 25 years and is continuing to do so. The evening meal is one course only and is well... More

I booked through the hotel website which was very efficient. Everything the other reviewers say about the location is true. It is in very beautiful countryside. The old buildings are amazing and the light fantastic. I would say the best rooms are on the higher floor, the views are fantastic, or if on the groud floor, then ask for one... More

About 1 hour north of Seville, in the national park area, somewhat off the beaten track, you'll find the Cartuja. It's well worth the journey! It's a part restored monestary and the setting can only be described as fantastic and unique Totally surrounded be beautiful countryside, where the only noises to disturb the peace are the birds. On a clear... More
