We (2 ladies mid 50's) had 7 nights at Tawali in Mar13. Our stay at Tawali exceeded all expectations. It's remote location makes it very special - the road from Alotau had recently been graded - so the road and boat trip to get to the resort was 1 hr 45 mins. This journey is part of the holiday as... This has to be one of the most isolated resorts that we have visited, and what a pleasure it was, the rooms were of a very good quality, still not 4 star but clean and sort of modern, air-conditioned with beautiful views. The resort building was spotless and dinner on the deck overlooking the water very romantic. The resort has... More

I don't have anything to add to the previous reviews-this was an all around positive experience. Best snorkeling I've ever done and I was pleased with all the pictures I was able to take with my new underwater camera. At 6AM on Saturday morning my partner and I were out in kayaks and happened upon a pod of about 14... More

It is quite a journey to get there but wow. Early morning snorkelling with the dolphins, the best reef scuba diving I've done ever and watching whales breach in the afternoon. Bloody amazing weekend. Highly recommended.

We stayed in tawali 5 nights in Oct 2012. We are snorkellers.3 star accommodation but 5 star experience. Snorkelling the house reef is worthwhile with thousands of clownfish as well as large groupers etc. Star from the wharf at the dock (there s a ladder down) and snorkel across to the long resort wharf near the pool. We paddled canoes... More

I recently stayed at this resort as part of a tour group and the location can be daunting, a bus and boat ride are required. The resort caters to diving and as a non diver I still found a lot to do, there are kayaks available and tours offered by the resort. Highlights of this location were the Bird of... More

I enjoyed a relaxed week at Tawali. The resort is expensive, although standard for PNG. The rooms are comfortable and large and beds comfortable. Food was outstanding. The national staff were friendly, welcoming and efficient. The expat managers less so and condescending towards the nationals. Diving good, but not as good as Walindi, although I've possibly been spoiled by the... More

I spent many days researching where to spend a week in PNG on a dive trip. I finally settled on Tawail and I was not disappointed. The resort is well designed, the rooms are huge and clean, the food is abundant and the service is friendly. Above all, the diving is superb and I saw everything I had wished to... More

An effort to get to - 1.5 hrs by road from Gurney airport, and another 20mins boat ride - but well worth the effort. Stunning scenery and location, diving was amazing - great dives only 10-15minutes away. Rooms were basic but clean and comfortable, and great homely food and service. Free kayaks etc as well if you don;t fancy diving.

We went with a group of people who call themselves the Lai Explorers a bunch of fun loving expats that are trying to see as much of PNG as they can during their stay. The lodge was an excellent , well organised place to stay. They took us for a day snorkelling, we spent time at the Skull caves and... More
