Although not as modern as some hostels I've stayed in, HI Waikiki was clean, spacious and with great facilities. Wifi, laundry, kitchen, beach mat/chair rental, activities board. The staff were nice and you can't beat the location close to restaurants, the beach, supermarket, bus transport. Stairs, no lift, but easily accessible. Would stay again.

The biggest problem with staying at the HI Waikiki is something they cannot control at all -- noise from the garbage trucks early in the AM.
