We stayed over night at the Inn, while travelling north. It was a very welcoming and interesting place to stay. The room was clean & roomy, the staff were very helpful. Afternoon tea & cookies are served in the dinning room, I thought that was very nice touch. Breakfast too was very nice, enough too get you going to lunch.... More

I choose this Inn due to its location and clean decor. I am not really into the ornate antique atmosphere of most other Inns this area offers. The Jailhouse Inn provides a simple room with neutral colored linens. The bed and pillows were comfortable and the room was spotless. We arrived early in the day and parked our car at... More

Dear GEMS21, We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay at the Jailhouse Inn. We're also glad that you "get" what we are all about! The Jailhouse is historic (it was Newport's colonial jail and police station), but our renovated guestrooms are hotel-style rather than old-fashioned. Guests appreciate our downtown location very convenient to restaurants, the harbor and other... More

Excellent 3 night stay with staff so helpful Great location meant we left the car parked at night with an abundance of restaurants within an easy walk. Highly recommend this as a great place to relax and enjoy the charms of Newport

We stayed at the Inn this past weekend. The location was perfect-we never drove the car once. Everything is within walking distance. Our room was great-2 rooms joined by a bathroom/hallway. The beds were very comfortable and everything was very clean. Sharon at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. We are not big breakfast eaters but the coffee... More

Dear Coreen -- We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. You were one of our first guests of the 2013 season! We're especially happy to hear that you will be returning. When guests become "regulars," that is to us the highest possible compliment. THANK YOU. A few words about breakfast: You are absolutely right! The Jailhouse offers a complimentary... More

Spent last weekend at the Jailhouse and I highly recommend the place. Plenty of free parking, 2 blocks to town and the visitors center, shops, restaurants and great sights everywhere. The room was clean and nicely appointed, staff more than helpful, just a really nice place to spend a weekend.

The Jailhouse Inn was a great place to stay. Our room was on the third floor (no elevator, since it is a historic building); however, the room was very large, decorated very tastefully, and quite comfortable. The location is fantastic...within walking distance of all the downtown restaurants/businesses/wharfs. We would definitely stay there again. The breakfast is nothing fancy, but adequate.... More

This is a charming inn in a convenient location. It's walking distance to Thames Street and the waterfront. The rooms are lovely and the service is lovely. Beware, the breakfasts are only ok. Mostly toast, cereals, store-bought pastries, (cold) hard boiled eggs and odd cold cuts. It's enough to get you to the next meal but it's not that enjoyable.

My wife booked this charming Inn as a getaway for her birthday. I am typically a big hotel kinda guy but this was a very pleasant surprise- all 23 rooms of it! The Inn is impeccably clean. Our room on the third floor had a nice big bathroom and a view of the church across the street. My wife was a... More

We traveled to Newport, Rhode Island from Western Connecticut with friends for an extended weekend. We have visited this coastal city many times over the past 40 years, but this was our friends first visit. We chose the Jailhouse Inn due to proximity to the wharves and restaurants. The price was very reasonable compared to other hotels and inns in... More

We had a first floor room with a king bed that was a good size with a pleasant ambiance; from reading reviews, other rooms may not be as spacious. Noise, as mentioned in many reviews, was not a serious problem for us, but one or two garbage trucks around 7 am did make some noise. I cannot emphasize enough the... More
