My husband and I came to Shadow Mountain Escape to celebrate my birthday and have a mini getaway for just the 2 of us. This place is only 1.5 hours away which was perfect in case of an emergency (we had a 7 month old being babysat at home). It was a great natural escape from the city atmosphere. The... More

We stayed in the Butterfly cabin and just loved it. All this gorgeous woodworking, but all new, clean, and uncluttered. The bed was so comfy. We enjoyed our walk around the property as well, and of course it's very convenient for hikes in the Shenandoah and also for Luray Caverns, which we visited as well. We were also very pleased... For seven years I have been surprising my daughter and son-in-law with reservations at Shadow Mountain Escapes-I booked for their honeymoon and every year after for their anniversary! The cabins are on the edge of the Shenandoah National Park and provide a great romantic escape for them! The special celebration touches that the Riddles provide are priceless! HOT TIP: Find... More

We could not have asked for more during our trip to Shadow Mountain escape in February. We went up for our anniversary weekend and has an absoluetly amazing time. From how beautful and unique the cabins and property are to the hospitality and little extras from the owners really made our trip complete. They even made us a delicious little... More

My wife and I spent a long weekend here in January 2012 and had an excellent experience in the LadyBug cabin. We love hiking in the Shenandoah's and getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city and thought we'd give this place a try. It's on the short list of places we'd like to go back to. Overall,... More

The pictures do not do this place justice. The cabins are beautiful set amidst a quiet mountain reprieve. Each log cabin (authentically timber framed) is uniquely decorated with European trinkets. My husband and I spent an hour just admiring the antiques, wood work and pottery. Even the kitchen was stocked with high quality William Sonoma plates and European beer mugs.... More

The fascinating decor and beautiful location make up for a few missing items in the bathroom. The kids loved the upstairs loft and the pond. It was so quiet and dark each night (don't try to find the first night after dark, you can't see a thing on the roads). The campfire was very nice, and being able to wash... More

Our stay at Shadow Mountain Escape was truly wonderful! The Ladybug cabin is beautiful and the thought put into every detail shows the care that Karen & Ralph have for the land and their guests. The cabin was cozy & warm and very energy efficient. The woodstove was a delight, especially since we had an early fall snow! We loved... More

Stayed two nights here in October in the Ladybug Cabin. Great value for money t $165/night, but felt that the cabin could have done with a little more thinking through. For example there was no bedside light so had to have the main lighting on, then get out of bed and turn it off before stumbling back to bed in... More

This place was beautiful. The cabin was wonderful with its stone fireplace and hard wood floors. Beautifully decorated and well equipped with essentials like coffee and spices for cooking. Please be aware to bring your own shampoo and conditioner though. I was surprised this wasn't included in our stay, yet hand soap and dish soap is included. Everything was extremely... More
