We had a fantastic weekend. Our hosts were helpful and friendly. I recommend the king superior chalets with the view over the river. The chalet was well appointed and comfortable. Very clean, Has a full cooker, fridge, kettle and toaster so easy to do your own meals. Tairua is ideal base to visit hot water beach (hire your shovel and... More

Good value for money in this out of the way corner of New Zealand. The rooms are all chalet style (if a little dated) and have all the comforts you need. Get one with views across the estuary. Breakfast interestingly was at the cafe across the road - it might have been basic but the food was excellent. For evening... More

This motel was booked via the internet where the description used on the motels website bore no relation to what we experienced. There was no separate bedroom. The chalet was very dated and the so called Harbour views closely resembled a view of a mud flat and not a boat in sight!! This accommodation is massively overpriced and worst of... More

We were deeply disappointed with this accommodation. Although the Lodge was almost deserted for the whole of our stay, we were given the worst cabin of the lot: right on the road, opposite a car repairer. When we asked about alternatives, we were told that the Lodge was fully booked. We had booked our cabin under a special web offer,... More

We booked King Luxury Chalet on the Website pacificharbour.co.nz and get a really good rate there. The Check-in was friendly, quick and very helpful. The Chalet in the garden was quiet and the bed was ok for 2 nights, maybe for some people a little too soft. Kitchen is a little bit aged but very useful. I would recommend this... More

On arrival the lodge looks very Indonesian in style with thatched roof and an image thats suggests 'exotic' Unfortunately having spent $250 on a one nights stay in a king bed chalet we felt slightly disappointed with the rooms. They seemed rather holiday park like and could have done with modernising. Having said that we had a water front view... More

We arrived in Tairua about 7 pm, and the two motels were booked out. Reception told us we would not find anything else, so we reluctantly paid $199. We had been paying $120-$130 for very nice motels. As we had come from Dargaville we had enough driving for one day. The room was spacious but so dark with dark timbers... More

Stayed in this motel I had booked through Travelbug was the worst service I have ever had at a motel. My biggest issue was that when booking you put your credit card num as a security deposit on the day of arriving my partner paid cash yet they took $209 out of my credit card they also charged my credit... We stayed in a charming, well furnished cabin with kitchen, spa bath and decking with a view of the beautiful estuary. When booking, it is worth making sure that you get a cabin facing the estuary, because the cabins set back do not have the same appeal. A second tip: check out the hotel website, because like us you may... More

This was our first stay outside a city in New Zealand - all our accommodation on the tour was pre-booked for us. The hotel comprises a number of lodges on the waterfront, with parking adjacent to each lodge. They are geared up for self catering, with full cooking facilities. The lodge itself was huge, and could easily have slept four... More
