I had just caught a cold when I arrived at the forest stay and Gary and Asta were wonderful. They plied me with Vitamin C and a traditional Maori medicine and I felt much better! I was disappointed that the weather wasn't good when I was there, as the surrounding areas looked incredibly lush and beautiful and would have been... More

We stayed at Te Ngahere Iti for 1 night during our road trip around the North Island and found this forest stay when trying to find accommodation in Kaitaia. The selling point was the night sky experience, and just the idea of being away from it all, really. The hosts Gary and Asta are very knowledgeable and passionate about what... More

We had no idea what to expect but had looked forward to meeting our hosts for several months and were not disappointed. Everything was wonderful and enjoyable. A very special look into a part of NZ we would not have experienced otherwise. WE loved the forest and the comfortable, fun home. The food was delicious and atmosphere warm and cozy.... More

This response was obviously meant to classify the homestay as a great spot, not the low category indicated. We enjoyed the company of these guests and it is obvious (from the wording of their review) T\that they enjoyed their stay. More

To come out into the country and to enjoy the beauty of nature, to hear birds, have silence in a peaceful way, learn about native orchids, live without our conventual electrity this is worth doing. Ensure you know which road to take, the distance from the start of Diggers Valley Road, bring your camera and be ready to take time... More

Gary and Asta's forest stay is a unique opportunity to live with nature! It may not be 5 star but at night you just look above to see millions of stays in a clear dark sky. We loved Gary's tour of the property with its fascinating trees and plants and the orchids have to be seen to be believed. The... More

Great to meet people who are genuinely concerned about our bush and who are living their dream with a solar powered house and a large bush covenanted for the future. We had home cooked meals which were great value. A great place for a taste of country life.

This place is an experience not to be missed if you want to plunge into forest tracked only by the owners, some native wild pigs and large Kiwi! The "hosted home" only has one bedroom for a couple. The food is mainly out of their garden and you don't get any more-eco-friendly or green than these two! They have a... More
