This hotel is a fantastic choice and I would urge anyone considering staying near Custer State Park to choose it. The location is great and the hotel itself is historic and comfortable. Dinner at the restaurant is top-notch. Breakfast, however, is only okay, and the housekeeping service needs improvement. It was very quiet and peaceful. Nice gift shop.

If you're traveling the area and want to stay in a unique, centralized gem, stay here. The history alone is impressive. If you've stayed at the Ahwahnee in Yosemite, then you know what we mean. No, this hotel isn't the Four Seasons. Yes, it has been built by people that knew the area using local materials. Stones from the river,... More

Thank you for your recent review. The State Game Lodge was once the ‘Summer White House” for President Coolidge. I did extensive research of the area to find a great place to chill out for a bit, while on our 10 state road trip. The lodge is in a beautiful spot, nestled into the mountains, with wildlife roaming freely. The park wasn’t busy when we visited... More

We stayed in the motel part of this hotel. The room decor was very comfortable, clean and attractively updated. The Lodge itself was wonderful; enjoyed just hanging out in the bar. The restaurant has a terrific gourmet menu. Staff was terrific.

Great place! Rooms and bathrooms are small but this is to be expected for a building this old. The staff on the front desk (Gloria, Helen, Ann) are all so friendly and helpful. The dining room staff (unfortunately, I don't remember their names) is really great. Location is convenient to Mt Rushmore (be sure and drive Iron Mountain Road) and... More

The Lodge is very near the Wildlife Loop Road in Custer State Park. This is where you'll see Buffalo, Pronghorns, Deer, Big Horn Sheep, and the wild Donkeys. But the hotel is a mixed bag: it is fine as a place to sleep, and great as a place to eat. If you stay in the old historic Lodge, you'll find... More

You must stay in the Eisenhower Room if you book the State Game Lodge. It is set in period furniture (except for the flat screen TV & Wi Fi) with a great poster bed. In the room is a letter that President Eisenhower had sent. He had stayed there. The lodge was the summer home of Calvin Coolidge. The State... More

I stayed in a 6 person housekeeping cabin with my 3 teens for one night in July. I made the reservation on their website a couple of months in advance. I do not consider the Game Lodge a good value because we slept very poorly; the room was cramped, the beds were uncomfortable, and we were too close to the... More

Thank you for your recent review. Custer State Park and the State Game Lodge is a great place to headquarter out. We stayed creekside lodge. Compared to other lodge stays - even in national parks - this stay did not include breakfast nor internet access in the lobby. As the lodge did not offer cooking facilities you were bound to dine at the next door state game lodge. No problem in getting a reservation, however this is a pricy option for... More

We stayed in the Creekside Lodge in August 2011, and had a wonderful time! The room is very elegant and updated, certainly better than your average chain hotel/motel room. It has a rustic-chic feeling, with plenty of in-room amenities including a microwave and mini fridge. Also, there's a small seating area and a little two person table. From our window... More
