We had excellent directions and arrived in good time after a 5 hour drive from Johannesburg (ie as advertised). From the word go we were made to feel very welcome and were shown to a delightful room with its own verandah, large double bed and bathroom. The style is Homes & Gardens meets Africa - very comfortable. Meals are taken... More

We were made to feel like one of the family - unbelievable hospitality. Excellent tours to the battlefields and an awesome experience overall. The rooms were comfortable, although not plush - it felt like you were staying as guests of family friends.

My wife and I (from Oxford, UK) had spent a week in Durban with family (SA residents) before starting our solo tour of SA. Fugitive's Drift was our first choice of accommodation due to outstanding reviews of the battlefield tours of nearby Rorke's Drift and Isandlwana. Upon arrival, at lunchtime, we were shown to a beautiful room with views to... More

Superb. We have never experienced such friendliness and hospitality before. We felt as if we were part of the lodge family - not just ordinary run-of-the-mill guests. What a lady Grace is, and what a memory. The inspiring, articulate Joseph, and the just as informative and engaging Mphiwe. This lodge and it's fabulous crew highly deserve the number 1 spot.... Fugitives Drift Lodge had been reccomened to me by people in England and by many people on the road in Southern Africa. The lodge itself was incredible. The dining room doubled up as a museum with Lee Enfield rifles, Martini Henry rifles, battle reports from the time and regimental crests hanging from the walls. The lodge oozed with character and... Anybody wishing to visit the battlefields of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift should stay at Fugitive's Drift Lodge for the most memorable and enjoyable time. I really cannot recommend this Lodge highly enough! The Lodge is packed with period memorabilia, the accommodation is excellent and the staff were so welcoming and helpful. A special mention for Grace! And the food is... More

We had three enthralling March days at Fugitive's Drift, a spectacularly positioned lodge created by the Rattray family amid the dramatic scenery of KwaZulu Natal and minutes from several great Zulu War sites. The colonial atmosphere is enhanced by pictures and artefacts from the period and the terrace with open fire where all the guests congregated for drinks, before sharing... More

We recently had three glorious days there (8th-10th March 2012 ) and cannot recommend it enough. The staff are fantastic, friendly and helpful, particularly "Amazing Grace ". The accommodation was very comfortable and the dining experience ( communal dining with fellow guests ) was really great fun. The battlefield tours are a " must do " the guides give a... More

I stayed at Fugitives Drift lodge for six days in January 2012. Everything was superb-no complaints whatsoever. Every day was better than the previous day. Food was superb; the room was impeccable, and the tours were excellent. Nicky, Andrew, Lara, Charl, Mphiwe, and other lodge staff were all so welcoming and they personalized everything. They continually went out of their... More

We spent two nights at Fugitive's Drift and thought it was wonderful. Only criticism was the lack of information on how to get there. When a hotel sends me no directions I assume it is easy to find from normal road signs which was not the case at Fugitives Drift if you come from the R68. Well that's the only... More
